Can't wait for the VPN tutorial! I have sooo many uses for that. There would be no need to setup another system in my apartment where I'm not that often and doing complicated sync between 2 hass instances. Really looking forward to it! :)

I have a SLZB-06M and I am enjoying using it with ZHA in HA. The only thing that I would say I miss about the USB connected device is having the Zigbee network still survive if something brings the network down. But the improvement in performance of my Zigbee network is definitely worth it. The latest Zigbee firmware killed the green indicator so I don't bother having LED's on. The Night Mode turns OFF the LEDs during the time set. Only the LED's on the side though, the NIC LED's are not effected I ended up keeping the Thread Border Router on the HA Yellow, because I also have Google Nest Hub devices, which are all forming the one Thread network, so it gives plenty of coverage for me, so I kept the SLZB-06M as Zigbee.

You did opposite to me - Yellow is Zigbee network and SLZB-06 is Thread - but it+s great that we have flexibility here and each on of us can have it's own setup. I've noticed that green LED is off, but since mine is hidden under the desk, I don't see any LED and it's OK. As log as it's working, it's good for me.

@@BeardedTinker Go which ever way works is what I say. That's the advantage of having this kind of flexibility. My reason for using the SLZB for Zigbee was due to just having one Zigbee coordinator, where my Thread already had two other border routers in the Nest devices. We have so many choices in ways things can be done with hardware like this. It's a big advantage of Home Assistant over other hubs that are more locked down.

Great video and coordinator. Looking at the histories of my core and zigbee chip temps, they seem to range from 75 to 81oC, with the core temp being the slighltly higher temp vs. zigbee chip.
@webdev6712
@webdev6712 2 күн бұрын
had the same, and did temperature calibration - go to the Settings -> general, and ther is a button Temp calibration. Got about 35 (which should be correct) from initially reported 70+.

Awesome product and thank you for this great review. Do you know if it supports Zigbee Green Power devices? Did you just showed it could do Matter too (4:14)? 🙂

In regard to ZGP, I'm not sure. I know that it should work (ZGP) with Zigbee2MQTT and that ZHA had some issues with it. Also as I don't have any to test, I'm not sure if any of my other routers can to translation for ZGP devices or not. Sorry for that. In regard to Matter - sort of - I'm using it for Matter over Thread, with Open Thread Boarder Router in Home Assistant for that. But that's that Zigbee/Thread support, not pure Matter. For that HA with bluetooth proxy is enough.

@@BeardedTinker thank you for the reply. I bought 13 switches that apparently is ZGP. I know Deconz can, but like open source. So right now I'm on Zigbee2MQTT. But I heard that the coordinator should also support it and use Zigbee 3.0. I will give it a try 🥳...at least I have supported a part of Ukraine 🙂

Upgrading to 2.5.5 from 2.5.4.dev can lock you out of the web UI. 2.5.6 seems to fix it, but I have three of the 06M and one has updated to 2.5.6 after failing 2.5.5 successfully. The other two indicate in HA that they have updated in the new integration, but are not accessible on the web UI.

Update - Give the update about 5 minutes to complete. I can now sign on to the web UI. You may still see the devices in Settings saying they need updating to 2.5.5, but I restarted HA and the update status cleared.

To exit the lockdown, go to /ha_sensors, log in on this page and return to the Dashboard. Now everything will work. Upgrade to 2.5.6 of course

Can you do a video of how to set it up in HA as a thread border router, please?

Hi, great video, thanks. Is it possible to run the SLZB 06 as Zigbee Router and Thread Border Router at the same time?

Unfortunately not as far as I know. Multiprotocol firmware ended up being a big issue to a lot of people and is not recommended or supported anymore.

Core firmware, love the version numbering. Installed = v2.5.2, latest = v.2.3.6. How would anyone find this confusing?
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 2 күн бұрын
😂 true, but don't forget that we sometimes get access to newer firmware even before the release. For example, I've had Thread firmware about 2 weeks before it was publicly available to test it out. Although, actually the latest firmware as of today is 2.5.6 and that's newer than the one I have.
@webdev6712
@webdev6712 2 күн бұрын
@@BeardedTinker here is the explanation i've got: there are two firmware streams, DEV and PROD. 2.5.2 is DEV while 2.3.6 is PROD. Update sensor shows latest available PROD firmware.

I saw in your video the temps of the chip around 70°C, mine says the same thing, I was a bit concerned and used a FLIR thermal camera and couldn't see anything above 38°C, any ideas why the reported temps are so high?

there is temperature calibration function available, i did and got from 70+ to 35 degrees. Go to Settings - General, and see the button on the bottom of that page. FYI I am on 2.3.6, 06 (not M)

That's correct. This one didn't have temperature calibrated. It's very simple - click on it, enter current room temperature, unplug device for 10 minutes to cooldown. and just plug it in back again. You should see realistic temperature after that :)
