Great video. I was wondering if you could talk about how easy it is to start with home automation in Australia, with the fact that I have heard Australia is very strict in terms of electrical standards or laws.

Its actually very simple. Basically nothing from the wall face plate backwards (into the wall) can be changed by anyone that is not licensed. This makes it expensive to implement anything permanent into your home as you need a licensed electrician. This includes even adding a plug to the end of a lead. The consequences of doing illegal electrical work can be severe, including fines up to $40,000 AUD, or even up to $600,000 AUD or 5 years behind bars if the work poses a serious risk of electrocution. I don't know of many other places that have such strict laws for electrical systems. What experience do you have?

OK lets assume you have the integration installed, so you added something like the following to your configuration.yaml telegram_bot: - platform: polling api_key: YOUR_API_KEY allowed_chat_ids: - YOUR_CHAT_ID Then if you wanted to send a message via Telegram based on a binary sensor (change to light entity state or as required), you would use automation YAML code similar to automation: - alias: Send Telegram message trigger: platform: state entity_id: binary_sensor.front_door from: 'off' to: 'on' action: service: telegram_bot.send_message data: title: 'Home Assistant' message: 'Front door is open.'

Home Assistant automatically checks the config before restarting, there is no need (anymore) to do it manually

I've not had issues with either Telegram nor the HA app (running on iOS). But from my research the Telegram integration is solid and always gets it messages through. Give it a try and let us all know your testing if you don't mind.
