+AshimWOS I'm using the Smartthings hub to control z-wave dimmers/relays. There is a bit more detail in a followup video here: misterhouse.blogspot.com/2015/10/amazon-echo-smartthings-howto.html

Thanks Mike. It was hard to move from last year, and we really enjoyed the 4 years we lived in UT, but the house we moved to in AL is fun in different ways.

What brand/model are the curtains?
@BruceWinter
@BruceWinter 9 жыл бұрын
+louididdy Somewhat generic cellular blinds from stevesblindsandwallpaper with somfy motors. Somfy does remote control with their proprietary radio RTS remotes, but also allow for zwave control via a Somfy ZRTSI RTS controller.

The unknown ball looks like a burnt tennis ball, also good luck with the move. Hope to see some clever automation there as well.

If I purchased an Insteon led 8-watt bulb, could I use it with amazon echo without having an Insteon hub?
@BruceWinter
@BruceWinter 9 жыл бұрын
+Anna Arma You can control some wifi lights without a hub, like the Philips Hue and Belkin WeMo lights. For other non-wifi devices (e.g. Insteon, Zigbee, Zwave), you would need to have a hub, as Alexa only does wifi. Supported hubs are Wink, Smartthings, and Insteon. You can also hack support for other hubs (e.g. Vera) with software, emulating one of the other hubs.

I don't subscribe to many personal video's but sir you are good. I am enjoying them. I have to find the black out remote blinds now. My wife is going to hate you sir. LOL. Thanks.

ya, sorry about that. Some audio podcasts that I listen to have an evil habit of doing that on purpose! They get a laugh out of it, but after a while it becomes annoying. But it does demonstrate how effective the echo VR is.

Hey bruce, Idk if you remember, we chatted a bit on a couple videos. I always enjoyed your work, from your first few videos. Just wanted to say that first off! Now, what would it take for your to make a tutorial on how to set this up? A detailed one. Rather, *For DUMMIES* With Alexa, Samsung's (or Wink) and a few examples such as lights, fountain, etc all connected; alongside the software part of it too. I know it's a lot, but you could break it down into 1-3 videos.. So, what would it take for you to make one? :D I know there are thousands of tutorials/guides on here about home automation, and all those specific things. *However....* they aren't you, and for some reason, to me - you explain things better. Or maybe it's just me and I can understand you clearly. Anyways.. Hope to hear from ya! Alas, ~ Your #1-6 fan.

+Yuriy Man (TechX) Yuriy, thanks for the kind words! Sure, I can do a more detailed Echo -> Smartthings -> Zwave tutorial. It really is pretty easy, so can be shown in 1 video. We are still unpacking and re-organizing here in Alabama, but should be able to get to that in a few weeks or so. Bruce

+Bruce Winter Yes! Thank you so much. You're the man! And of course. I was thinking it, but forgot to put it in my comment.. After the move & after you're settled in, of course.

+Roy Kurka You are right, It does look like one of those. I suppose a wandering neighbor cat might have lost one in our backyard. That or it is a dung beetle dung ball. I suppose I could taste it to find out :)

+unodospizza A dung beetle dung ball ... thats it!! I just did a 'dung ball' image search and saw some pictures that look exactly like that. I didn't even know those existed. Almost a perfect sphere, those are some talented beetles :) I attempted to hide that ball in our Utah house as a secret surprise to the new owner, but it inadvertently got packed. We probably now have the only piece of Utah dung in Alabama.
