Home built diesel electric submarine, rigging the new Yanmar engine

Is the engine going to be within the habital space, you must be using some sort of snort induction mast? How about batteries? Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of being a submariner, and I became one, I served in the RN, the first boats I served on were of a diesel electric boats variety, Grampus and Finwhale.

The engine is in the occupant area with a sound deadening wall. There will be a snorkel for surface travel as well as the hatch will be open. The snorkel is for rough weather. The engine is not piped into the snorkel. I plan on using AGM batteries with constant air flow even though the batteries do not off gas.

I hate to say it, but foresee issues getting that compressor to work and play nice with that engine.

Why would the compressor care what turns it? I have to admit, these HP compressors are new to me. I do know you can buy them with gas engines on them.

What’s your plan to filter the gunk out of the lake water to use for cooling?

I will have a closed system. I am going with a 1.25 inch pipe under the sub for coolant to flow through.

Why do you need a compressor in the sub. Why not a water pump?

I have free flooding MBT's. My VBT is pumped.

@@HankPronk So are you filling up tanks on the surface with the compressor, or coming to the surface & sucking air in to the compressor through a snorkel valve and blowing the ballast with that?

@@alanjames2333 The large CF air tank is filled at the surface while travelling to the dive spot. I won't dive unless I have at least 1000 psi in the tank.
