“Son, once you get those training wheels off,” Mark said, “I’ll buy you your first motorcycle.”
A day later, Haven could ride his first bicycle without training wheels. Soon, he was on a motorcycle…at three years old. “I just thought it was so cool that I could go so fast, and everything was a blur, and I got to do it myself,” Haven says. “I was really free, I think I always held on to that.”
All of the signs present in a typical workshop are here: work benches, welding supplies, spare parts, but the warehouse Mark and Haven live in has been the focal point of their relationship and projects. Now a teenager, Haven has been turning heads with his first few custom motorcycles-that he’s made all by himself.

+88thetruth88 I couldn't care less about how much a car costs, I doubt this kid would either. You don't drive money around. The looks of a car and the driving experience are what gearheads care about. I'm envious because I've never been in a position where I could worry about what my car looked like. Modern Beetle engines are often quite a bit more powerful than what was offered in the 356.
@PistonAvatarGuy
@PistonAvatarGuy 9 жыл бұрын
+88thetruth88 For all intents and purposes, a 356 is basically an early Beetle, there's not a whole lot of meaningful differences between them. This kid is building a what is basically a 356 replica, so the driving experience and the looks of the car will basically be the same. Later air cooled Beetle engines can be made to be quite a bit more powerful than 356 engines because there is an enormous amount of aftermarket support for them.
@PistonAvatarGuy
@PistonAvatarGuy 9 жыл бұрын
+88thetruth88 It's not the same car, it's a replica, of course it's going to be different! I said MEANINGFUL differences! Even the unique parts on a 356 are very similar to Beetle parts, there's no MEANINGFUL difference there. Fuck, man, what is your problem? What did this conversation accomplish? What was your goal?

I use to never even like motorcycles till my brother passed away last year and he loved riding them all the time so I figured I would try to make one even though I only build computers and have never done anything with an engine.

It's videos like this that make me believe that the parent-child relationship is still alive. Growing up, the time spent with my dad was the best and the fondest memories I have today. And with my first child due in a couple of months, I was worried if I'll be able to have the same relationship with my kid or they'll grow up and jump right into a cellphone life. Now I know there's hope. And that it's all up to me, to decide whether I want to be the dad a child would want to hang out with. So inspiring!

Wow what a great father and roll model. You can see how good he’s been raised just in how he talks and thinks. Growing up working on projects that you love not only teaches invaluable life skills but it also teaches that if you love what you do then even if you put in long hours you are never really working because you love what you do. Take it from someone who has been on both sides of the fence having a job that made great money but also made me miserable and then a job making ok money and being happy to wake up for work loving what you do makes life worth living. Great video.

That is a father son relationship out of a dream. My father was abusive, and always told me my dreams were dumb and that if I wasn't working or making money, I wasn't truly living. This has changed my attitude, when I have my son, THIS is how I will raise him. Raise him to like the amazing father this man is, not my real abusive father. If I couldn't have the dream childhood this son was blessed with, I will bless it to my son when he is born.

Haven, l'm sure you recognise how blessed you are to have a father that supports your natural talents and inclinations. I did too up to my desire for a motorcycle. He forbid me to have one as long as l lived under his roof. As soon as l left home and saved enough money l bought my first bike. It was 1971 and the bike was a Bultaco Lobito with a 175cc 2 stroke engine. Weekends and many week days after work l was riding on one of the many makeshift dirt tracks in the Atlanta area. I love your story as well as your bike. It looks and sounds great. I'm 70yo now and still ride. I've got a 1969 Honda Super 90 waiting for attention right now.
