I've been canning for 50+ years and have canned Ham and Blackeyed Pea Soup plus Ham and other kinds of beans.. This sounds awesome. As a retired Chef and a Emergency Preparedness Instructor, I appreciate your sharing these ideas and tips with everyone. This is one i will have to share with my participants when i do the canning segment.

I love ham and bean soup! I must try this recipe! Right now I am waiting on my canner to finish with the chicken. My daughter came over and canned for the first time with me today. She got 40 pounds of Zaycon chicken and wanted to can some and I was thrilled that she finally got on the band wagon with me it was so much fun! She had to take her baby home so I'm just waiting for it to finish. I bought 80 pounds of chicken for us! What was I thinking?!?! I cut up 40 pounds to can and the rest I'm just freezing. I also have 15 pineapples waiting to can, I'm going to be busy for the next few days I do believe!

I do a spin on bean with bacon soup. I also use the carrots, onions and celery but I use chicken broth. The only spices I use is salt and garlic powder. I use a thick bacon and it is awesome!! It is my husbands favorite soup and with his health I know how much sodium is in it.

That is true what she said about letting the canner sit & cool off on it's own. I used to lose jar seals quite often by removing the lid to quickly after processing. Now I let em sit for an extra 10-15 minutes & I rarely have any trouble. Thanks again Linda!

I have never canned bean soup, but I sure want to now! Every time we have a ham (usually a holiday), I can't let that hambone go to waste so I make ham broth. Then bean soup comes next, it's one of my favorites. I use the same ingredients, onion, carrots, celery, perfect with the ham and beans. It sure would be good to have some stocked on my shelves. Great video!

Hi Heather.....Have missed you all, and I will also try this recipe. btw Heather did you attach your pressure canned items on your shelving to the walls in your storage pantry room? I am so undecided if I should hire someone to attach all my storage pantry mobile shelves against each wall in my storage pantry. I worry about all types of storms, and hurricanes, and all those glass jars falling out and breaking from the windy vibrations this type of dangerous weather causes. Thanks so much Heather and love to all. Hope you can reply dear friend:).

Sometime can you try a Mexican myocoba bean with bacon/celery/poblano type of canning for a sort of spicy refried bean canning session? Retried beans are expensive in tiny cans and I think you could tackle this for us all.

Linda, the canner is now coming down off of pressure. Can't wait to see how it turned out. Question for you though: How do you think this would work with cooked chicken instead of the ham? Can you think of any reason NOT to do it?

I love the baby canner, it's so cute! I'd love to have one, but just can't justify it. (I have a big all American my mom gave me). My question is about the new tattler EZ lids. I know that the original lids you tighten loosely, then tighten after you take them out. Is the technique different with the EZ? I've seen some who tighten at the beginning, and the company doesn't have guidelines for the new EZ lids. I'm not a complete newby canner, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around this. Eeek! Thanks Linda, and the soup looks yummy!
