Watching your vids got me canning 3 years ago and I am so thankful. I have been able to give canned soups to sick neighbor, lowered my food budget, saved me time and energy with quick foods when I am working or sick, made me venture into new food treats, taught me how to buy in bulk and when things are on sale for my canning ventures.

i really need to buy a bulk box of tattlers and give them a try!!! this soup looked beautiful! i have not canned split pea yet, so this has got to go on my must try list! :D I ended up making the chicken a la king, and adding dumplings to it, and sure enough, there was nothing left to can up! HAHAAHA the boys had all their friends over and they tore it up, so it was a huge hit!!!!

Linda, I never tire of watching and rewatching your canning videos. You have been my inspiration to start canning again and you’ve helped me immeasurably to deal with the loss of my husband. I get lost in the canning process, and you are spectacular in guiding me through your delicious recipes. Thank you doesn’t even come close. Blessings, my friend. You’re in my prayers often. You are a beautiful, strong woman, and there’s lots of life lessons for all of us just by following you. Blessings upon blessings to you. You’re an inspiration in so many ways. ❤️Jo

I did the exact same thing. Just started a batch of split pea soup in the exact same Costco cast iron pot! Had to move it into a bigger pot. I also doubled the recipe. Also just made a big batch of Turkey bone broth. Gonna try canning it all in my All American canner tonight!

I make split pea soup all the time (at least 9 qts of it) Unfortunately, between my hubby, my son and I, we manage to have it all gone within 24 hours....I think I will make up a batch this weekend just to specifically can it...being that we just had some 2 weeks ago, maybe no one will eat it just yet! LOL....maybe what I will do, is make 2 large batches of it and fill up my shelves with yummy deliciousness! Looking forward to seeing your video/recipe for the Chicken A La King Soup. Love your videos. Because of you, my hubby and I started canning last summer!

I have a 12 quart instant pot which is wonderful for making soups to can, cooking a large piece of meat fast and easy, like I just did two huge beef hearts and two beef tongues to make dehydrated dog treats for my grand pups and my own protein powder. It holds two large chickens and cooks ten lbs of hamburger quickly….they also have a 14 quart but to heavy for my bad arms. Also great for making a large enough batch of bone broth to can quarts …just set and walk away, walla….. My Polish mom always made hers thick with Mac noodles, potatoes and carrots in hers….I wouldn’t can noodles in it thou….. When I want to thicken my soups now instead of flour I use powdered bone broth….quick and healthy….

Linda, and any one else that can reply. I have never canned before but i am considering canning. I am cooking for two(sometimes one). but I can take advantage of better prices and sales if i can learn to can. My biggest problem i have in taking the jump is how can you tell if one is bad. there was a local church that had a Sunday potluck dinner after church last year and there were a lot of people died . they found the a lady made potato salad and one of the canned products has spoiled. I assume that a bad jar would smell. but when the potato salad was made i would expected an experienced caner would have been able to tell when a jar is opened if it was bad. I don't want to die learning to can, can you or anyone help me here. looking for the pros and con of caning thank you Linda I like your videos Steve

mon8459 botulism? it doesn't smell nor look bad. botulism bacteria has two parts; the spore and the bacteria. the spore is hard to kill... which is why you pressure can it by the instructions. you need the temp prolonged at over 240. any low acid home canned food should be boiled over 10 min before serving to kill the bacteria if any spore survived. it is a double percaution. the bacteria itself dies easy... with the 10 min boil. botulism spores just need an air tight moist environment to grow... so if you boil before eating it should be good. there are other food spoilages you can smell amd taste or if your seal comes off... just toss that food. spoilage and botulism is rare... but easy to mitigate

Thanks so much Linda, but if there is any type of meat used in any recipe I always wipe the rims of my glass mason jars with vinegar to ensure no meat juice or oils remain on the rim just wiping with plain water. I never want to jeopardize a true seal on my pea soup with ham canning jars. I use an Instant Pot pressure cooker to make the pea soup and my All American pressure caners to pressure can my glass jars filled wit the pea soup & ham. My Instant Pot pressure cooker makes the peas quite soft, so no immersion blender is necessary. Also using the pressure cooker saves so much time & $ not paying for stove usage, and I just set it and leave it do it's thing, with no watching over it and constantly stirring the pea soup in the pot like you are demonstrating in this youtube video.
