Half the Walmarts in Missouri and ILLinois have Federal 2-3/4 inch # 1 buckshot 16 pellet loads combine them with a Modified, Full or Extra Full Choke to get the same pattern and you are back in the game again.

A lot of the state-run prisons use number four buck since number one Buck is almost impossible to find in any commercial loading. I purchased a 30 caliber round ball mold and it works very well. I cut open birdshot shells, take the lead shot out and cast it into 30 caliber round balls, then put it back in the hulls with agricultural perlite as buffer, then I throw on an overshot card and roll crimp it. Makes a really good home defense load. I also find that when you do this if you take the wad out and put a small amount of clear Scotch tape on the splits in the shot cup it tightens up the pattern. I just take four tiny pieces of it and tape the cuts on the shot cup. It's still opens up and separates from the load of shot but that little millisecond that it holds together for some reason results in a tighter pattern.

I think #4 buckshot is better for inside the home. But federal flite. Control is my favorite OO buck

I love this stuff. Unfortunately the general public doesn't understand anything but 00, which is a shame, because I agree that the #1 load is probably the deadliest small arms ammo Federal's ever made.

It'd be really slick if Federal revamped this to be more akin to the 8-pellet 00 load in terms of pattern tightness, and then cranked it out en mass. I'd standardize on that in a heartbeat.

We have some #1, it is not this flight control stuff...at 'in house' range I doubt it matters, no shot of any size gonna spread much in 4-7 yards...
