I am a big fan of Heather! I was always bummed that zone 4 is too cold, but I'm going to give it try since my it was just upgraded to zone 5. YAY! I can always mulch or cover if a cold winter is forecasted. This winter has been AMAZINGLY warm in Minnesota. More 50's than you can shake a stick at and dang near 70 in a couple of days. Unheard of in early March!
@HookedandRooted10 ай бұрын
Hi Rosmary! It's always fun to experiment. I did use a winter shrub cover on a Chinese fringe flower thay was hardy to a zone 7, and I'm in a zone 6. It does appear to help. But also, you could think about planting ot in a microclimate. Against a south facing wall etc that can also keep it a little warmer also. That is amazing weather you are having. Happy Gardening! 🌱

So excited to start planting. Is it OK to start planting these now zone 6?
@HookedandRooted10 ай бұрын
Hi David! It depends what your buying. If it's the shrubs, they are cold hardy. So if your ground is workable/thawed, you can plant them. As for the bulbs, some can be planted now such as the lily bulbs, and gladiolus. However the dahlias and caladiums you would have to wait until all chance of frost has passed in your zone before you can plant those out. Hope this helps. Happy Gardening! 🌱

This might help them understand what customers are looking for and help with ordering. Its worth a try. I have had great conversations with staff that work at the garden centers. Some of them even willing to see if they can try ordering certain things in. Hope this helps.
