In one 9 minute video you single handedly made a ton of star wars fans happy, and boost the demand and revenue for chrome pop-up sinks.

Just completed mine, it turned out great. I made a hilt-only Lightsaber were I can’t attach a blade. Here’s how to make it slightly better and cheaper if you don’t want a blade. Keep the “junk parts”. Use the chrome circle at the end of one of the junk rods as an activator button instead of a screw. Use epoxy to keep it in place. Wrap electrical tape around the hole at the end of the assembly. Put the plastic end piece on first, then the metal end piece, it will give more of an Obi-Wan feel. Also if you want a blade plug so kids won’t see inside the saber, use the blue chrome sink plug and slide it gently into the end, the o-ring will keep it in place. I epoxied some large hex nuts inside the actual saber so that when a let little kids hold it, i would fell like a real saber would. Overall, I loved you tutorial and it made a beautiful saber. Thank You.
@qazxl123
@qazxl123 7 жыл бұрын
Also, to make the hilt-only saber heavier, I put 2 C batteries into it from the top, then put some paper towel in the saber and put the saber plug in which will hold the batteries in place

Quick tip on the 1/4" washers - I found that a 3/8" black nylon washer works really well instead of the 1/4" metal washer. The 1/4" metal washer can be hit-or-miss on fitting in the hole. The 1/4" nylon washer is too small but the 3/8" works nicely. The 3/8" nylon washer has an outside diameter of 5/8" and inside diameter of 0.380. I also used a 1/4" carriage bolt (with 1/4" cap nut), instead of the #10-24 x 2" machine screw. The benefit of the carriage bolt is that the head is smooth - no drive slot in the head (where you put your screwdriver to turn). Worked out great. Thanks again for this great how-to video. We built 2 of them, one with yellow and the other with blue electrical tape grips (kid's choices). Looks great! Happy to post pictures in the appropriate place HappyTrooper.

Just finished the build with my son...thanks for the video. The only issue we had was the 3/4 coupler was too large to fit into the drain pipe...we went the friction tape route and it worked perfectly. Also...need a slighted larger bit then 1/8 to accommodate the 10-24 screw. Thanks again!

+TheLocutus70 Hello, I will put the Kyly Ren saber on the to-do list :) It may just be the hilt...I'll see what I can come up with. Good luck on the build! On the pop-up sink drain saber, I hope you were able to see the messages about the 1/2" coupling. I made a mistake and showed the 3/4" coupling...it should be 1/2" coupling. Or...you can just skip the coupling and use friction tape to fill in that gap.

I was gonna try it myself but I have now idea on how to do it.
@HappyTrooperDotCom
@HappyTrooperDotCom 9 жыл бұрын
+TheLocutus70 Are you talking about the place where the coupling goes? You can probably skip the coupling, just place the PVC "blade" inside the hilt, mark the "blade" where the gap is. Pull the "blade" back out, and wrap some friction tape around that spot until it fits snug in the hilt...no coupling needed :-) AND the blade is secure.

I imagine you could use something like a thin fabric to wrap around the grip as well! Might look cool.

+ZirHansson Yes! That would probably look better than electrical tape :-) I also some a nice saber with a leather grip.

I wasn't able to find the exact drain assembly as you had but I have a few ideas on how to make it work
@HappyTrooperDotCom
@HappyTrooperDotCom 9 жыл бұрын
Kyle Woolman Yeah, if the parts aren't available, imagination will get it done :-) Let me know what you ended up doing to make it work. If you couldn't find the drain assembly at your local store, maybe an online vendor (Amazon?) would carry it. Either way, let us know what you did to get it to work! Good luck!

Also does 3/4 inch pvc work for the blade? It kind of worked for me
@HappyTrooperDotCom

Sure, there aren't any rules here. Feel free to change anything you'd like. You can use a 3/4" PVC pipe. If it fits...great!

Congrats! Thank you for watching, much appreciated! :) Good luck with the other hilt! It requires a little more work, but as you'll see, that hard work will pay off in the end. Enjoy the build!

The handle is perfect and if you paint the laser red or blue it will be awesome.

i was making them this was as well. its awesome with enough work, they will look awesome. for my button i used a spring, with a button out of a busted toy, and another nut for that part, so it made a real button. later on i made it into a functioning button, and turned the insides into a LED flashlight..

Extra Tip Regarding Coloured Duct Tape: If your going to be using the lightsaber for filming, brightly coloured duct tape is going to help you immensely. It'll make it easier to see the blade while swinging it around when you are adding in the special effects.

+Darin Cumpston I'm sorry :( That is my fault. Hope the hardware store isn't too far. I wish KZbin would let me edit it. I have tried to put popups. Again, my apologies. I hope you are able to complete the build. Thank you for watching.

This is great, something I'm looking forward to do with my kids in the future. I do own some expensive custom sabers but I also love diy builds that bring out the kid in me. Your tutorial reminds me of what my friends and I did as kids, which is why I believe my kids will like it too. Keep up the good work.

Great video, thank you. Just wanted to let you know that when we tried this the 3/4" coupler was too large. We could even see the difference in our part and yours. What we needed was a 1/2" coupler, which looks just like the one you are using in the video. Again, thank you for this great instruction!

+Mark Figart Hello Mark, I apologize for the mistake. I have added KZbin display cards and pop-ups on the video, trying to explain the correction. They definitely appear if watching on a PC/Mac, but if you are watching on a mobile device with a later version of the KZbin app, they do not appear. Again, I apologize for the mistake.
