Oh wow! That looks very cool! I like the idea of using a paper template wrapped around the pvc pipe. Some of the PVC caps have dome shapes but I don't know if they would have fit the parts you were using. What diameter hole did you use for that button? (for both inner & outer)? I'm thinking of making a modified version of Ezra Bridger's lightsaber blaster out of pvc parts. I want the general shape but not the exact design. I've been examining lightsaber hilt designs and blasters for inspiration.

Nice build, can you add electronics to light the blade? Also would it be better to have sprayed the outer black part silver first, then mark off place’s that you want to show through with latex or even pva glue then spray the black over top and rub/wash away the latex/pva?
@cwlbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm going to try to do a video in adding the electronics in the future once I've done some more research. Yes that way of painting works great and I've done it on many projects. The main reason I didn't on this project was because I didn't know I wanted the silver weathering until I was done with the final paint job.

I've definitely become interested in making my own lightsaber design at home. Thing is that I love the ergonomics of real world blade hilts in which the hilt is shaped to help with edge alignment. I know it doesn't MATTER with a lightsaber, but I still want to make shaped hilts, and I've been struggling with figuring out the best materials to do that with... maybe just crudely pound some metal piping around a wooden handle?
@cwlbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Im not sure I fully understand what you mean by the "ergonomics of real world blade hilts in which the hilt is shaped to help with edge alignment" Could you give me an example? Maybe I can help you out with finding materials.
@Tangent_Pixel4 жыл бұрын
CWLbuilds I might have worded it badly... basically in sword making, most hilts are more oval shaped. The reason for this is that with swords (as opposed to lightsabers) you want the sharp edge facing what you’re swinging at. With a perfectly round hilt, it’s easy for the blade to rotate in the hand... this doesn’t actually matter with light sabers, so the gist of it is that I’m trying to make lightsaber hilts that aren’t round, but can still house the internals from Ultrasaber or similar... think Ahsoka’s white sabers in Rebels.
@cwlbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Okay yes that makes sense now. That is definitely a bit more challenging than a "traditional" round lightsaber hilt but still totally doable. The first thing that comes to mind is still using PVC but then heat forming it into that more oval shape. You could shape a scrap bit of wood into the final interior shape you want and then insert it into the PVC. Heat the PVC with a heat gun and push it down around the wood core. Carefully of course. Hopefully you can then pull the wood core out and you should have the final shape you want. If you still want to use a round saber blade though you'll need to keep the top few inches round in order for the blade to fit in and have enough room for a locking screw or pin to hold it in place. You could also do the same thing with an aluminum pipe you'd just need a bit more elbow grease. Maybe you could also find a section of aluminum rectangular tube stock that you like the size of and shape that into what you want. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Nice job, the discoloration was because you used alcohol with the black wash. Acrylic paint is only properly thinned by water.
@cwlbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you're probably right about the discoloration coming from the alcohol but the weird thing is I've been using alcohol as a base for my black wash for years and I've never had that reaction. I also made a new batch of black wash with water and it still left that white film over it so it must be from something else not reacting well with the wash.

@cwlbuilds4 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought. I used alcohol at first and it made that white film then I tried it with a water base and it still left that white film. I haven't had it happen since so I must have done something with the paint layer that the wash reacted to.
