Being an electrician for the last 40 years, it does my heart good to see a plumber making a proper splice with solid wire and wire nuts. You get a big 👍🏻 from me Mike. As far as that Rheem 50 gal tank, I’m not impressed. The last two water heaters in my house were pro grade Rheem tanks, excellent life from both, however there is a new AO Smith 40 gal tank in my van right now for my house. I think I’ve pressed my luck far enough on a water heater I installed in 2001. 😅

@@fattysgarage1754 honestly in this case, it was the price. I don’t buy big box store water heaters, plus I needed two. The supply house had a great price on 40 gal AO Smith heaters with the long warranty. I’m not opposed to a Rheem or Bradford White either, when discussing conventional standarding pilot water heaters.

Use shorter suction hose. And use high velocity washing machine hose. They have significantly larger openings. Pump speed will increase dramatically.

I installed my Rheem performance 9.5 years ago and still works perfectly. Key is powered anode rod and water quality. I was on well water with a softener(not the best) but now I have a whole house RO system. It is the 6 year warranty model.

I don't remember seeing you use a saws all on anything, but if your doing a new shutoff on a main supply that's vertical, pro press is a great answer, you can solder it, I saw one guy heat the valve so much that he cracked it,it's was dripping the same day,we went back with pro press and Perfecto, it's done

That was a tight fit, I would take out the whole hinge too. Remove anything that might scratch/dent the water heater on the way in.

As far as pre twisting the solid copper wire when using wire nuts, the code states that it be done according to manufacturers' instructions. Ideal wire nuts don't require pre-twisting. That being said, I do pre-twist.

the leak detection sensor got wet when the relief valve dumped some water into the pan. When he dried it out, all was good.

I’ve heard about a lot of malfunctions with Rheem water heaters from HD….. I actually replaced my 20yr old one with a new Rheem from a company called 4 seasons…. And guess what ?…. The gas valve was not working…they order the part … and I was like it’s new just replace with another new one (hot water heater ) eventually after going thru a supervisor… they swapped it out for another new one …. It’s only right ?… right?

Brother I always wrap wire nuts with vinyl electric tape. I'm in no way telling you what to do or that you are wrong. I'm just saying it sucks if you have short.

In the world's greatest navy wire nuts do not exist. And because there is no way to ensure thru a torque spec that a wire nut thru heating and cooling will not work it's way loose, a wrap of tape seems like a reasonable thing to do.

As for Halloween (deep breath)…modern version of All Hallows Eve (eve of All Saints Day) dates to 700s Christian Ireland and was the Church’s effort to make a pagan celebration a Christian one. October 31st is known from ancient Druid times in Ireland as Samhain(saween). It was believed by the Druids that on this day the veil separating the abode of the dead from the living, thins….costumes were often worn to confuse the recently dead, or evil spirits, so they’d leave the living in peace. Too many legends to get into in this post….but Halloween didn’t originate in the US…the Irish brought it with them. It’s actually a way bigger deal now in the United States than in Ireland. I've seen some brand new tanks leaking out the T&P and/or nipples. often not tight enough from factory, not enough pipe dope and it seems they switched compounds to stuff that doesn't work as well, although the stuff they used to use was equivalent of red thread locker, where it used to take three people and a huge cheater bar to get the nipples and anode loose.(lol, not joking!)

I like the uncut version with the oh shits . It happens in all trades and if someone says it doesn't, they're not doing the work. Also liked the quick hands to shut that valve. Had to laugh about the door, seen it too many times. Pre existing conditions , ie shitty original install.

I recently came across the house that had every press joint in the house either actively leaking or weeping. The guy who was a licensed plumber in Troy New York pressed The connections on the tub spout and the shower valve and riser to the shower arm but everything else he did in PEX. Unfortunately there was two false walls I would had to cut through to get to the backside of the shower so I had to cut out brand new tile with my M12 grinder. I thought the press joints weren't inserted all the way so I cut them in half and they were fully inserted. They were pressed but it didn't look right to me so after I cut them all out and replace them with Viega press fittings I took them home and did some testing. After I press them with my press they were watertight. The property owner contacted the plumber and he admitted to using a $120 Amazon bolt cutter style press tool on all the connections. They were only half inch yet they still leaked. They were also copper which is expressly written in the instructions for that weird thing that the hand press is to only be used with copper and not brass press fittings presumably because the copper is softer. I have a video of it on my channel from like 6 months ago or so. It makes me wonder how many other cheap bastards out there didn't want to shell out the two grand the little M12 press costs and bought that Amazon special and how many leaking press joints there will be in the future. When I brought this up to the property owner he wanted me to just press them instead of replace them which I wasn't comfortable doing.

@@BrickTop900 They weren't Viega. They used like a ribbed o-ring kind of like a nibco fitting but the name wasn't nibco. If I'm going to warranty something I'm going to use my own fittings and not trust someone else's especially some weird off-brand I never heard of.
