I had home economics in 9th grade back in the early 70s and absolutely loved it! We made cinnamon rolls. That was my highlight of the class. I felt so proud making them. 😍

I was recently asked by a man why I need some many kitchen "things". I explained to him, that if I were to work in a car, I'd need several different tools to accomplish the job. Kitchen appliances, utensils, cookware and more, are the TOOLS of a person who cooks and the light finally went on. :)

Reminds me of our home ec classes in school. Yep I'm that old! Lol. Loved those classes. Kitchen, sewing, cleaning and even shopping and meal plans. I still have my booklets from it.

Constance, you know you have done a good job when you have seasoned experienced cooks watching and enjoying your video. I am in my mid sixties and come from a long line of from scratch cooks. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. You have such a calming voice that I felt as if I was right there in your kitchen with you. Thank you for putting in the time and work to create these videos. I will be referring several young women to your channel that I believe will benefit from your classes. I look forward to more of your Home Ex series.

Yep...46 years ago, I was in home ec class listening to Mrs. Jolly explain each kitchen tool, and it's uses. Darn....I'm old!!! When taught the names, and uses of any tool/item it truly sticks to the brain. Kids now a days, don't have a clue on how to commumicate ti one an other, use a check book, balance a budget, sew, cook, use tools, know mechanics, write in cursive, can't complete basic math to hand change back, play musical instruments, know their history, and know their constitutional rights.

I am glad someone is starting a video on this subject. You would be surprised how many people do not know how to read a recipe, what tools to use or boil water!! I am 69 years old and maybe I might pick up a few tips. Thank you for providing a video that inform others. Cooking is a way of life.

Thanks so much for your videos. We had a class called Home Ec when I was in highschool, but my stepmother never allowed me to participate in the class. She wouldn't buy ingredients for the lessons and fabric so I could see an apron. This means the world to me. Don't be discouraged because you're really helping me and lots of people. God bless you from Kingston Ontario Canada

THANK YOU, Constance for starting this series. While I'm an experienced cook, I'm enjoying seeing it all explained from the very basics forward. It's a great review for any of us who cook daily. I've shared the link with a friend who homeschools and my own daughter/granddaughter, in hopes that they will take advantage of it since they live 3,000 miles from me and I'm unable to even teach them what I know. I had a wonderful home-ec teacher in High School in the early 70's who my husband hears her name quoted quite often when he tells me he likes something. You remind me a little of her and again, you're performing a wonderful service to anyone who will take advantage of it.

Bravo Constance, this was so well done! I hope people will share it with local 4H clubs, & schools! When I was a new Bride I would have love this kind of information, as it was so overwhelming to what I would need to have. I remember I decided I would need a big knife & a little knife…a large spoon & one with holes… the rest…well they came with time.

Loved the Lesson saved to share with my Grandkids and I know they will love it. My 8 year old babe is trying her hand in the kitchen now. With parental help of course. Kids need to know how to cook and clean (😂). Always taught mine and I remember eating a lot of American Girl recipes prepared by my daughters and those hard biscuits were the best I ever ate😉

The big “scoop” one came from the mercantile in Cullman, Alabama. The “paddle“ and primitive one came from Etsy, and the pointed round one came from… I have no idea. LOL. I have had it for about 30 years. 😁 All the rest have come from various places over the years.

I absolutely LOVE that you are doing these Family and Consumer Science, a.ka. Home Ec videos. I took all of these classes in HS as electives and a lot of kids don't even know they exist as an option. In my school district all students were required to take a basic cooking/sewing class in 9th grade. That's it. Everything else was elective and as you said most school districts have cut these courses due to budget issues. When I got to college my first major was Family and Consumer Science education, so I took several courses as well as methodology and curriculum courses in this area. Keep going!

I work for a Christian non-profit residential facility for at risk children and teens. We do a "summer school" program called CREATE with the children in our care. We are planning to do a FACS class this summer. I like your lesson layout. I would like to be able to print off the worksheets you refer to in your lessons, but our firewall won't allow me to access them. Is there any way I could access your worksheets in another way without having to purchase them? Thank you, Stephanie Rankin

Tools of the trade 👍 how in the world did we end up with so many different types? Lol! 🥄 🔪 😲 Spoons n bowls aside. What do you think about the array of gadgets in the market? The other day at Drs office, I watched an add for a tool that tears open the top of an egg. Perhaps it actually serves a function that I simply misunderstood🤔 I have gotten on board on a few impractical ones end up with buyers regret. Thank you for the first class!
