Agree 100% about Chance. He's an amazing singer in his own right, and his ability as a baritone, plus the fact that he can drop to bass at will and free Tim up to sing lead, adds a lot to the group. This is my favorite collab that the guys have ever done. I love that every one of them gets to shine but they show all the respect to Don McLean and he gets to shine too! I have a crush on Tim too, and fortunately my husband just laughs about it. He loves Home Free too so he gets it. 😂

This song (American pie) *almost* wrecks the shock effect of Mayday...but only to those who really pay attention. At least in my opinion. I was almost afraid to write this comment - worried about giving it away....but then I saw the Mayday reaction will premiere today, so it's safe lol

Love d the reaction to this incredible song! I am 71, so this song was from "my" day! And HF kills this with Don! Don wanted it faster and wanted to do with them cause he said they "understand harmonies." Uh, yeah! You add in their superstar arranger, Darren Rust and this is what we get!! Yay! And Chance, oh yes I love his beautiful, wonderful baritone soulful voice.Cuts deep into my heart! And how about how he carries the bass so great during Tim's solo? My dad sang barbershop for many years and I always felt the baritone was sort of like the glue, you don't always hear them in the group but you sure notice if they aren't doing their part. Chance's solo work though has grown and he is now such a legit soloist! Blessed he is part of the group. He's actually super funny, but he's also a quiet sensitive introvert guy if you follow him on FB. Such super talent from each HF guy. And Adam, well, he just killed and made the song theirs!! 2 wheels, you are correct. Don McClean clears that up in an interview with Jeremy White. At first, Tim approached Don about HF backing Austin doing the cover. Later, they went this route.

Chance was the bass for his former group, Street Corner Symphony. He has gotten to expand his range a lot since he joined Home Free. Some of SCS stuff is pretty good, like Madness and Hard to Handle, etc.

I hear Adam almost passed out twice during the recording of this song. Who the hell could beatbox more than 1 take for this long, demanding song. Chance was my favourite verse in this song, he was so clear, high and secure in his presentation. Loved that don @ 75 years was as good as ever. Loved the way you appreciated this spectacular video.

Tim’s verse is so different than the others. He fill the space more lyrically than the others. I understand that the clarity of Rob and Chance’ takes are amazing, Austin’s notes are legendary, and this song is enhanced greatly by Adam, he’s the glue that holds everything together! But the way Tim fills the room!

If you weren't alive back then, you might not know what those lyric's are referring to. But I was, and know exactly what every one of those lines were referring to. Chilling when you think about it. The song is 50 years old. I was in college when it hit the airwaves (the normal radio edit was a seriously truncated version, so people had to buy the record in order to hear the whole thing). Now, I've been retired for over 6 years. You're right. Chance is underestimated. Each of these groups has a "backup low bass" who has to work a normal range most of the time but drop down and fill in when the primary low bass sings lead. That would be Scott in PTX, Jesse Nunn in Voiceplay, and Chance here. Notice that when Tim sings his lead verse, that low "ba-doo-ba" still sounds almost the same.

Rob has always been my favorite. I like them all but my ratings are from fave to lesser fave..Rob, Adam, Chance, Tim, Austin. P.S. everyone tries to say who is a better dancer...but, they ignore the fat guy (who is slimming down nicely) Rob is the best dancer of the group with Adam 2nd.

Told ya Tim had a 5 octave range...haha he was just showing off. Yes, Home Free killed it. Thought it was so well done and the video itself was so clever with the black and white film clips. Adam killed it and Don McLean sounded great for 75! Yeah Home Free is just so good with covers and their videos are so good too. Love their harmonies. If you want to see Chance take the lead, try I Can’t Outrun You, Helplessly Hoping, Yours. They’re so good and the boys say they’re so glad he joined their group and not Pentatonix.

Yo JB - great reaction as usual - what a timeless classic and how the guys paid homage and showed honor to Don McLean....they stayed pretty much true to the song - and I agree on your assessment of Chance's voice - he's the glue that holds it all together...he doesn't stick out but if he's not there, then you would notice a hole in the sound. Also maybe you didn't realize that when Tim was soing his solo, it was Chance holding down the bass - what versatility huh? I loved the ending especially when Don removed his glasses and slightly bowed as if to say...."that's the end of an era folks" Keep doing what your doing - you tell it like it is bro!! You need to hear Tim in "Mayday"...as well as Chance in "Mayday"... and then you also need to hear Tim in "Snowglobe" (written by Tim Foust and Keelan Donovan) And yes, the song writing in this is beautiful, though if you lived through the era and picked up the "easter egg references" it is dark. The history of an age all in one song, from Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, down to Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Mick Jagger and Janis Joplin.

There was an article in some news magazine, that said Grand Rapids Michigan was a dying city. This video was created in response to that. The second person to lip dub, is the local meteorologist "Bill Stephen", even the Mayor is in this video. Also this video was done in a single take. Took a lot of rehearsal, but took one take!!!

I am so glad you like Chance. No, he's not the show pony of this group of show ponies. He would be in almost any other group--he has looks, class, style, gobs of talent. His range is impressive compared to almost anyone *but* Tim or Geof Castalucci from Voice Play. He's fully as versatile as anyone in the group. But he, like Rob, adds a sweet, solid anchor and a presence that gives to the group...and that's ignoring how he expanded the flexibility of the group after Chris Rupp moved on. And frankly, with the kind of firepower he packs--and that Rob packs--it's a wonder either has the humility to be the "steady reliable" while the show ponies prance around them.
