We Americans usually sing this song for the stroke of midnight, New Years Eve.

Home Free has the best 5 part harmonies of any a cappella group. They know each other so well that they can blend their voices perfectly. Each of them has a unique sounding voice but when they come together it is awesome.

This song is generally sung on New Year’s Eve as we’re welcoming a new year and saying goodbye to old friends. It’s wistful and beautiful. I love this. Those harmonies are stunning. Good reaction Jesse.

Many folks know this as "The New Years" song....as we sing it at midnight on New Years Eve. This is the best version I have EVER heard of this song, and I play it for myself at midnight the last 4 years....and will do it again this year. I was so glad that you got a chance to hear Chance....as he doesn't sing solo too often with the group. Jesse....they have a new song coming out at the end of this week....they are covering an old Doobie brothers song....set your reminders to hear it....you'll love it. I've already heard a sneak peek of it

Home Free's arrangements are always so smart. Beautifully done. For me, their harmonies/blend is unmatched. Perfect rendition. Thanks Jesse. 💖🍟

I love how Home Free keeps a lot of their video environments simple--allows the focus to be on their incredible acapella vocals. Just amazing 5-part harmonies! Home Free makes every song better!! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

One by one so beautifully sung, although I have to admit that especially the part of Rob touches me a lot. More beautiful than we Dutch people sing . 😛😄 You can really hear how talented they are here. When they sing, I'm really quiet.💖

Haha for sure Joan. 😆 is it even singing what we do? I loved Rob aswell indeed, talking about not judging a book by its cover. Big bearded angelic singing 😆

@@JesseReacts You're right, it's not singing here in the Netherlands, more screaming and yelling. 😂😂But we'll take it for our Orange team. 😉 You can say that it comes from the heart in any case. 😜🧡 And how you describe Rob 100% agree with you.

I had no idea that the tune was from a Dutch song. You have a really good voice yourself. Either way, it's quite solemn. We bring in the New Year with it. Thanks for sharing that.

Haha knowing the dutch we went by scotland with our boats and decided the song was ours 😅 guess we just slapped a text on the original

That's exactly what I thought at the end. Very classy. In America It's mostly a sentiment to bring in the New Year by making fond memories and new friendships and let old animosities fall away. Thanks for the reaction, Jesse.

Thank you for the Danish connection. These really old folk songs have certainly gotten around (probably by traveling troubadours originally) It's known as a Scottish folk song connected to New Year's Eve in Canada and the USA. There was a religious sect called the Calvinists or Presbyterians who were against the celebration of Christmas in England as a Christian usurpation of the pagan winter solstice having no known actual relationship to the historical birth date of Jesus Christ. A Canadian music band leader, Guy Lombardo made it popular for New Year's Eve. It's the only time people sing it. Homefree can be very funny in a silly way as well as doing very traditional barbershop style acapella. One thing they have done is sing with other older famous singers. They produced American Pie with Don McLean during quarantine for the 50th anniversary of the song and they have 3 fun videos one called Quarantine and another (I think the first they did during the pandemic from their separate locations) of The Gambler and another fan favorite is Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget - an original song by Tim Foust. HISTORY (background resource to supporting acapella characters that keep turning up) - Chance was the last member to join Homefree as a replacement for Chris Rupp, Adam Rupp's brother when he left the band he formed after 20 years. Chance came from Streetcorner Symphony a group/band formed in Nashville as their bass singer for the Sing Off on season 2 I think (the year before Pentatonix won the tv competition in 2011 and 3 years before Homefree won it). Streetcorner got an actual vocal bass, Armand Hutton to replace Chance. Streetcorner is still going and Kaleb Jones, who plays bass (the instrument) and sings high tenor in Avi Kaplan's band still sings with them. They just released an album of songs for children called "Jukebox". One video on KZbin but the full album is on Spotify. (You might like it for your child it's quite good.) Adam Chance also sings with The Hound + the Fox a traditional duet with guitar. A married couple who were 2/3rds of Fifgen Films. They shot that wildly creative music video for Pentatonix of their Daftpunk medley that went viral around the world in 2013 that Pentatonix fans keep leaving out when they say $400 was the cost of the video ($400 was just supplies not the filming and editing that these 2 plus a 3rd partner did and they were paid a great deal more than $400 for their work). Fifgen Films also produced and shot Avi Kaplan's first released solo original songs "Fields and Pier" and "Quarter Past Four" under the name Avriel and the Sequoias while he was still with Pentatonix in California in 2017 (see Avi Kaplan's KZbin channel for those 2 videos) and several Homefree videos including Ring of Fire ft Avi Kaplan that you have already reacted to. Chance sings baritone with The Hound + The Fox. Try "The Sounds of Silence", "Hurt" or "My Mother Told Me" by them to hear Chance. Tim Foust also has collaborated with them for the Christmas song "We Three Kings". On Adam Chance's own KZbin channel you will find "Driver's License" done alone and "Wayfaring Stranger" ft The Hound + The Fox. It's a very small group of singers and musicians that keep turning up along with Peter Hollens and Lindsey Stirling whom I don't think you have gotten to yet either? Try Peter Hollens with Avi Kaplan for "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" (another old Scottish ballad that emmigrated to the USA) and to get a quick intro to Avi's full vocal range and Peter's developed multi singer filming (by Fifgen Films) to show the different parts being sung by the same singer - or Peter with Tim Foust alone or all of Homefree with Peter Hollens collaborations or Peter with The Hound + the Fox, etc. 😁

Woe wow wow wow haha 🤯🤯 so much info, yet so many references i am starting to get haha love it! There is so much land to cover for me wow. Love all those connections and relations surrounding those sing off series. Think it’s awesome how everybody seemingly is getting along and working together in some facets. I love that, it’s as it should be!

The guys say that from the bass down it´s Tim , Chance, Rob , Adam , Austin Adam Rupp has a beautiful tenor voice but does not like to sing lead because he has no formal training , he is actually taking lessons now so he can sing/put notes in his drum solo when he uses the looper

OMG!!!! You found Dougie Maclean!!! I LOVE him. I go to see him every time he's in the States! Love that you discovered him!! A little disappointed in Home Free this time though -- they skipped all but one of the verses and the one they sang, they didn't understand so they altered it in a way that made no sense. The poem by Robert Burns has so much more to it. You, however were as brilliant as always!
