If you watch this video again (and you will) you'll notice that Chance takes the bass line throughout the whole song. Tim never sings anything but tenor in this. It's not just that you will be taken aback watching this particular Home Free cover, it's just that we Home Fries just crave seeing the expression on reactor's faces when they watch it after they know who sings which part in the group. And the answer is, they all sing each other's parts and beatbox whenever they want to, simply because they can. We who knew before you saw this remember our open mouths in awe the first time we saw it after learning that Adam beatboxes (watch their live cover of "9 to 5" to see them all beatboxing), Austin does high tenor (and he does it well when he isn't making harmonica sounds for the live version of "Man of Constant Sorrow"). Rob does a great lead tenor (when he isn't beatboxing). Chance sings Baritone (when he isn't doing bass while Tim is singing baritone or tenor). And, poor Tim can only do bass unless he is sing in one of his other 4+ octaves or beatboxing or telling "Storytime With Tim" stories or anything all 5 of them are capable of doing (even Chris Rupp did things that no one expected him to do as "the third tenor". And don't forget that they all do song arrangements, and mix, and write songs, and who knows what else!

Jaw dropped, eyes wide, head shake and complete disbelief, all Home Fries know a newbie just watched Mayday! We literally anticipate this and know every part that should get a reaction and woe to the reactor who talks through one (congrats, you passed). We love our guys for a reason and are loyal as can be. I agree with Snow Globe and Hillbilly Bone. My Church is fun and so is Let it Be with Lisa Cimarelli.

That's Tim using his impressive 5+ octave vocal range. Even though, we the loyal long-time fans-who have heard him soar up onto the high tenor range a time or two- were absolutely shocked when this video came out. The look on you face was PRICELESS!

Coyntry Fried Pop Medley. Keep your ears on Austin and your eyes on Rob. Hilarious ending. Helplessly Hoping. Just vocals. Beautifully shot per Chance's vision. O Holy Night. A touch not country. My heart needs more space. It Do You Hear What I Hear. Arranged by Adam and first time I heard Austin beatboxing. This song i'll easily loop for four rounds or more. Lastly a Rob featured lead. Catch Me If You Can. First time i watched one of their storytelling videos. Enjoy.

I usually get upset when people suggest "Mayday" too early especially when the Reactor just doesn't know the Roles of each member! It's so important to do it Right to allow Reactor's to give a REAL REACTION, so when I know a Reactor like I seen with you still learning about the Group I will always say do not React to Mayday until 10-15 maybe even 20 songs into the Reaction process of the group! Your Reaction Proves that I am CORRECT! SNOW GLOBE should be Next!

The first we got to hear this song was when they released their Timeless album and we didn't know who was singing the tenor lead. There were huge discussions in the fandom who it was and while some of us heard it was Tim almost immediately, since he's used it briefly on other songs, and even though Tim eventually confirmed it was him, it wasn't until the video was released quite some time after that everybody actually accepted it. Of course we don't want reactors to watch it until they think Tim is "just" a crazy low bass. Chance was the bass singer in his precious group, but it's always a treat when we get to hear him go low.

It would be a CRIME to encourage a newbie to listen to this song early in a newbie's exploration of HF. Rarely do we get happy surprises like a contra bass taking over the lead tenor part. It's shocking...in the best possible way!

Chance has a 4 octave range. His chest bass is as low as Tim’s chest bass (per Chance himself in a Q&A) but then Tim has tricks to get lower overall. Chance takes the bass line whenever Tim is singing lead, so if you ever wonder who’s got the bass line and think Tim just recorded both, nope, it’s Chance. When Chris was with the group Tim would occasionally record the bass lines because Chris is actually a true tenor who, like all of them, had a wide range and was able to cover baritone, but couldn’t get low low like Tim and Chance, who are actually basses can.

So, not just HF specific and sort of technical, so scroll on if that doesn't interest you. Chance- has a great range. Technically sang bass for Street Corner Symphony in an earlier season. He is billed as a baritone as he filled Chris Rupp's bariton harmony spot. I love him as an addition, no disrespect to Chris, as it has allowed Tim to really branch out into more leads Nd he has the gift of gab on stage, he can hold a crowd well. The timbre of his voice allows to to branch out their country covers more. Chance has also stepped up in some great leads, I love him in the Sea Shanty song. Yes, Virginia, a bass can sing that high. The lower the voice, the thicker the vocal cords, more ability to stretch and attain a larger range, higher notes. Not all basses have quite this range, and those that do usually have had vocal training on the way to cultivate the natural chest voice, using a mixed voice and musically sound (and vocally safe) transitions in and out of head voice (or falsetto). Many comparisons are out there on who has the biggest range, but I think with overall timber of voice, they all bring things to the table that othwrs dont. Both Tim and Avi can blow a speaker. Tim's voice lends itself well to singing melodies in country and some pop. His bios list his professional career but not any music education beforehand. Avi is technically classed as a basso profundo, and his has extensive classical training. There is. PtXperience video where he sings part of an aria and it AMAZING. Just so rich, and his diction is spot on, lots of training. Prior to Sing Off, he was studying at junior college and his acapell group was the first (and still only) junior college to win the ICCA's. In terms of leads, Tim has more full projection, almost a belt, in that head range, like Mayday. I do like Avi's upper range, but it see it more sweet ballads like Light in the Hallway. No disrespect to Matt, his training is phenomenal (um, one of the top music schools in the country. I think his voice is WAY more suited and blends so well with PTX's current direction, but he can be classical just lime that. His stage presence is great, i love him in Mr.Grinch and in their first Christmas tour. Not dissing Geoff Castelucci, I just don't know too much, i wasnt such a fan of what's her face. Not bases, but two other PTX folks, Scott and Mitch, also have quite respective ranges thanks to their excellent control of their head voices. They, along witj Kirstin, came from a phenomenal high school program and did community musical theater. Most of those programs strongly suggest music lessons for youth singers to ensure they do not develop bad habit or damage their voices. (Yes, I had them growing up too. Not a spoiled rich kid, we got caught trying to way high pop songs in the stairway at church. The nice lady from the choir offered to give us singing lessons with hopes of starting a youth choir, but more importantly not damaging our voices at a young age. I just lucked out that this phenomenal singer from the choir was a Juliard grad)
