At 68 years old , I know I’m closer to the end of my days than the beginning. If I’ve learned one thing in all my years , it’s that God is real. Through the good times and the bad, I kept the faith. I lost my daughter to a fatal heart attack, in 2003 at the age of 35, it was the heartbreak of my life. Through grace I survived , to come out the other side of the hurt and pain with a renewed faith in God. I praise him and proclaim how great thou art. For greater is he that is in me , than he that is in the world. Bless His Holy name.

Ever since I found out that my 43year old son with two young children died in a car accident. This has been stuck in my head... I sang it at his funeral and the entire congregation chimed in... Then military color guard stepped up to play taps... during the playing, the outside grew dark and it began to POUR DOWN RAIN... off in the distance came rolling thunder and lightning... it got closer and closer until it was directly over the church! Another lightning strike, and all the lights went out... the color guard had to fold his flag in the dark... Just as they finished, the lights came back on!! I felt my son close to me... "this is my beloved son... with whom I am well pleased" Then, at the burial, a flock of birds flew in and "sang sweetly in the trees... " I am just his dad, God is his father... You did good son, we are both well pleased... We will miss you. but we know where you are.

Not a Christian specifically but you can’t help but to believe in God when you listen to songs like this. When you take the art and embrace it and let yourself be carried in the emotions of the lyrics, tone, and melody. I am not a great communicator, I don’t have an extensive vocabulary, I cannot craft an enthralling speech, and thus I am not an expert of persuasion. But the way I see it, the most compelling argument in favor of the existence of a creator, and a benevolent one at that, is simply the recognition of all of the beauty around us, and especially the beauty we are able to impart on others, this video being a shining example. We are capable of so much love, joy, genius and soul in this life, that it simply cannot be discarded when that life has ended.

Oh man, Adam. You sell yourself short. This was beautifully written, and you were able to articulate your feelings, which many can not do. If I may make an assumption, it seems like you want to believe in a creator. What do you think is holding you back?

I have to say that I went through a medical crisis this past December while I was home alone. I figured I was at the end and God gave me the song 'How Great Thou Art' to sing in my head. But I told Him that I wanted to be listening to it while I joined Him. Since I didn't have strength, I asked Him to find me a version that was sincere so that I could go home listening to true worship. In two clicks, He brought me to this version. Then I lay there in tears, basking in His presence and in your music until warmth & breath gradually seeped back into my body and I lived, by the grace of God. 💗✝️ Thank you for being part of that blessing to me during that time. God used you to bring glory to Himself and to bring wholehearted worship as He gave me peace and walked through the valley with me. 💝🙏

My wife passed in Feb 2023. She sang in churches in Michigan, Indiana, and N. Carolina until health problems stopped her. I chose to provide the music during her celebration of life. Her daughter and son had other parts in the celebration. A few weeks after she passed, I discovered this group. During the first song I listened to, I thought I had found the group/songs I wanted. During the second song, I knew this group was the one. No one can say, but I believe she directed me to this group. You guys are great.

Yeah, it has a great message. The only problem; this song was sung by the congregation at my grandpa's funeral, so that's the first thing that it makes me think of. I was really close with both grandparents on that side of my family, and I also sang the Lord's Prayer at both of their funerals as a trio with a couple of friends from my home church. So now, singing the Lord's Prayer (which happens every now and then, as I sing in the church choir) always makes me want to cry, for obvious reasons.

And though I knew dad was gone, I couldn’t help but wander around the land “looking” for him. As I approached one of his favorite places, “It is well with my soul” began playing in my head louder and louder. I smiled, and knew that dad was ok with the turn of events. I'm getting on...it's been 70 years since I first heard this hymn. I always liked the music, on the organ, and the harmony of the choir. But the words went in one ear and out the other. Then, from the age of 12, I stopped attending church services. I spent a lot of time in forests, mountains, and canyons, and looking into the night sky -- I knew I was in the greatest cathedral in the universe. Church and hymns were almost forgotten things. Then, a few days ago, wandering around the net, after listening to Hallelujah by Pentatonix, Into the West (and a couple other songs from the Ring movies) done by Peter Hollens, KZbin put this piece by Home Free into my "string". I almost skipped it. But I didn't. I listened to it. I listened to it at least six times, one after another. And the words came home to me. I haven't felt so near God since I was a child. Listening to their beautiful rendition of How Great Thou Art, and gazing at that perfect scene, the simple church in the Alps, I was at peace. They did it perfectly. They nailed it. Since then, I've listened to a few of their other songs, but I keep coming back to this one. It is simply glorious. Thank you, Home Free.

He is also our closest friend to whom we can tell our every fear without having to ask Him to keep it a secret. He is a wonderful brother who is there to have our back at every time that we need Him. Just trust Him and let Him take control of every situation that you may face and you will come triumphant through the storm that is our life. He will protect you, guide you and love you. Don't worry. It reminds me of going to church every Sunday and Holy Day with my grandmother who raised me. I’ve struggled to find faith my entire life but hearing voices raised in praise of Him brings me to tears and fills my heart with a feeling that seems like it could only come through the will and love of God Himself. I came here because I tried to sing this for my six month old daughter but I didn’t have the range. So glad I found this it reminded me that I should bring my daughter to church so she may one day find comfort and wonder through God.

O Lord, my God when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed then sings my soul, my saviour God, to thee, how great thou art, how great thou art When through the woods, and forest glades i wander, and hear birds sing swetly in the trees when i look down, fron lofty mountain grandeur and see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze then sings my soul, my saviour God, to thee, how great thou art, how great thou art, then sings my soul, my saviour God, to thee, how great thou art, how great thou art it is well it is well with my soul with my soul it is well it is well with my soul when Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart then i shall bow with humble adoration, and then priclaim, ! "How Great Thou Art" and "Blessed Assurance" were my late grandfathers two favorite hymns. He was a man of God and a faithful pastor to his flock for most of his living days. His death was slow in coming, but inevitable, as we watched him fade from Parkinson's complications. His slow passing softened the blow, and came more as a relief that he was free of the body that had so long constrained his sharp mind and compassionate spirit. And so I was able to attend his funeral with dry eyes, able to be the stoic shoulder for my mourning mother, with a steady hand and a comforted soul. Serving as one of his pallbearers is still the highest honor I've ever been blessed with. However, as the years pass, and his death falls further into the past, I find it harder and harder to keep my composure when hearing this hymn. Even now, as I type, I do so only through a blur of tears. This hymn, this prayer of acclamation and testimony both, encapsulates so much of my grandfather's life that I believe the tears that went unshed at his funeral are wrung from me each time I hear it sung. And hear it I must, because I cannot muster the composure to sing it, though I want to with all my heart. So thank you, Home Free, for being my voice, and for giving this dear hymn the full measure of the beautiful gift of song you've all been blessed with. May God bless and prosper you all as He is glorified through you, and may you be as much a blessing to others as you have been to me.

I absolutely love this. It’s such a beautiful song and a wonderful cover of it. I have been in a really depressed state lately and have been trying to keep my head above water so to speak, but it gets difficult at times. I’ve dealt with addiction for 7 years but I am in recovery now and have been sober for a little over 2 years. It’s still hard to deal with but with God’s mercy, unconditional love, and grace I have been able to keep at it. I’ve attempted suicide quite a few times in the past but I thank God every day that it didn’t happen. It just wasn’t my time and I’m slowly figuring that out. Times are tough right now and the world seems to be in shambles but God will prevail and bring us through it, and if not then it might be time for us to return Home. Thank you so much for this beautiful rendition! It brought tears to my eyes in the best way. God bless all of you! Stay safe, healthy, and happy everyone! God is with us and He will not forsake us. 💜

I don't appreciate people saying that this song has sexual lyrics. Just because you don't sing this song or don't go to church, doesn't give the right to say bad thing about the song. This is a wonderful hymn. Evangelist Billy Graham once said: “The reason I like 'How Great Thou Art' is because it glorifies God. It turns Christian’s eyes toward God, rather than upon themselves. I use it as often as possible because it is such a God-honoring song.” Today (10/30/16) during church when the congregation was singing this song, my mother was in tears. It reminded her of her father who passed away over 3 years ago. Her father meant the world to her. I thank Home Free for singing this great old hymn and hopefully they could sing more great old hymns. I loved how they sang it. Beautiful arrangement. So I ask this of you, whenever you sing this hymn I want you to glorify God rather than yourselves.
@lejeanmesser56698 жыл бұрын
You're confusing the discussion about the secular song "Hallelujah" - originally by Leonard Cohen & recently covered by Pentatonix with discussions of this hymn. Apparently some people aren't great listeners & think just because a song (Hallelujah) uses biblical phrases and incidents it's automatically glorifying GOD like How Great Thou Art does. That is FAR from the case.

I personally think Home Free should cover Hallelujah themselves to see who's better! ;)

Totally agree! The harmony of Home Free can not be matched by anyone. Love Pentatonix but they have nothing on our Home Free Fellas!

Its difficult to judge who's better because of their style of music. But when PTX does country and Home Free does pop, they are soooo good as well. I'm more of a Pentaholic but I still love home free. Let just enjoy their music

Oh my God. What a performance. This is like a symphony of voices without having to add impersonations of instruments. This has a near Cathedral organ quality to it with the voices blending together and highs and lows added as an audio spice. Truly a gift for us!
