This is amazing and brings back a very special memory for me every time I hear this song. I apologize if this is boring to others. I was in the U.S. Navy for a long time, and in 2003, I was on a 9 month deployment to the Pacific region. We pulled into Perth-Freemantle, Australia for 4 days. We go to a bar (go figure) in Freemantle with hundreds of U.S. Sailors and Australians, partying hard. The live band began playing "American Pie", and the entire bar, everyone, began singing. Everyone on every floor and every room of the bar. The band stopped singing, kept playing the music and just sat back and watched it unfold. Played the song twice because of the reaction. It was awesome, a piece of home for the Americans, and all of the Australians knew it, singing along with us at the top of their lungs. I will never forget that. Thank you. You guys are awesome! And thank you Mr. McLean. Your creation is timeless, and brings joy to so many people!

I'd argue against that. Tim and Adam are probably two of the most credited people in the group in my opinion, along with Austin as well. I'd say Chance gets the least credit because he isn't usually the lead singer, and the songs where he is the lead aren't as popular as most of their others. However my favourite part of this song was Chances verse, I think he killed it.

Home Free, thank you. The respect you show to the original artists is appreciated. I bet a lot of these artists never expected to be headlining a song with a group of young ones at this stage in their careers. Oh man the originals are so talented, they shame us for being young and lazy with the gifts God gave us. What makes me a lifelong fan of Home Free besides your talent as singers, musicians, comedians and actors, is the humble and respectful vibe you guys send out. @@janus9371 I've begun a post dealing with the meaning of it all, and the background is part of it all too. I don't know if it's on this part, but I can assure you I'll finish it soon. I think about the age of Don McLean when he began to write this, also, he didn't write it all in one go. It seems to me there were so many things going on in his world at this time some of which may have had an effect on him. Remember he delivered newspapers every day, and would have read all the big stories as they happened,I consider this my jumping off point, so to speak, and I go from there. Hope this helps, but keep looking as I'll finish it quite soon. I'm sure there'll be plenty people who'll try to shoot my theory down, but hey when I'm finished I won't care what they say. It's going to be my essay, mine. Speak soon.
