Just joyful! From what they've said about the Sing Off they were under pressure to deliver what the producers wanted, mostly high notes from Austin and bass drops from Tim. Now that they can make their own choices, and can cover the whole song, the balance is much better. And Home Free + leaf blower = hilarious 😂😂😂

It seems like during the sing off the big “draw” was Austins country boy twang and Tims crazy range. The one time they allowed Rob to take the lead the judges were not kind. Also I dont know if Rob was really as confident in front of the crowd as Austin and Tim. Of course we know Rob is crazy talented and so are all the guys. I am so glad that everyone gets a part in nearly every song they do. Home Free is such an amazing group
@brendafrazier811 Жыл бұрын
I’ve also read that guys were really insistent on Rob getting that spot even though the producers didn’t like it.
@patriciamcl54 Жыл бұрын
@@brendafrazier811 The producers asked each group to nominate two featured members and HF nominated Austin (not much of a twang, actually) and Tim. This was because the producers had to put on a good show and as with all TV talent shows, too many characters/voices confuse the audience and they lose interest, so of course the production side weren't best pleased when HF wanted to bring in a third. They also thought that HF were at that point likely winners as long as they kept a clear identity (another reason for the two featured singers thing).
@patriciamcl54 Жыл бұрын
In fact it's clear that the producers saw Austin as a breakout star, not so much because of his twang but the looks, the moves, the voice. Many people thought it was a shame that he just went back into the band without exploring any other possibilities. TV talent shows depend on characters and on establishing identity.. Featuring a 3rd singer risked the blurring of HF's identity. I disagree that the judges weren't kind - Rob was clearly pitchy and nervous,, probably feeling the pressure of the band insisting on him doing the lead!.

This was their 1st & 3rd versions of Life is a Highway, current and 10 years ago. Their 2nd version was 5 years ago and showed them on the road, or on the highway if you will; being silly in their tour bus, setting up for a concert, meeting the fans and signing autographs, doing a little press, and performing on stage. They may be doing a cover of Rascal Flatts but the original song was by Tom Cochrane.

@timworks991 Жыл бұрын
Love your reactions and love that you are including their Sing Off versions as well. That gives important context for their current videos. So many reactors are not even aware that these are remakes of their earlier Sing Off performances. I love seeing what they kept the same and what they changed or added. In the the Sing Off, the producers wanted there to be one main lead singer for each group and of course for Home Free, that was Austin. They had to fight just to get to have Rob take the lead when they did Colder Weather. There was a lot of push back from the producers of the Sing Off over that and that was the only performance that the judges gave any criticism of Home Free's performance. The group has matured so much in the past 10 years and with Adam Chance replacing Chris Rupp, their dynamics have changed, giving them an even greater versatility. So enjoy your reaction and analysis and looking forward to future ones.

Oh oh oh those guys are so good and funny. I'm laughing my ass off, especially at their faces. What fun they would have had during those recordings. I've seen it a few times and each time I see something new. But my attention still remained on the singing and that inhumanly good beatboxing. You could say I was laughing while swinging. Because it sounded amazing again. It has become much better than the performance of the Sing Off. But what I like so much is that even if you don't see the video, what you hear is still great. With many groups the song is nice and good when you watch the video, but without a video it is a lot less and I had enough after listening to it once. I don't have that at all with Home Free. They are top, but not over the top❤

It will achieve more rumble on microphones when turned up. Great love cause it shakes your seats and even the building! The video was indeed a chest note. Tim has blown some speakers with growl notes. Great job Jenn! Loved break down ! You’re right about his chest connection in the second. Big fan! Low bass Kenneth

I love all their renditions of Tom Cochrane's original (the Sing Off, an earlier video & this one). I also love when Adam's & Austin's hair is loose! I think because the judge's were impressed by a power tenor and Tim's' bass, they used those more in the Sing Off. The singing & harmonies are terrific & Adam has outdone himself again on beatboxing. Their collective sense of humor and lack of ego makes for great, fun videos! Thanks for playing this & your comments.

Top tips for recognising extended bass techniques, hope it helps! Subharmonics: there are a few different ways to produce subharmonics, but the most common one is through singing a note in chest, then adding fry to it very gently, which drops the pitch of the chest note by an octave. They tend to sound buzzy and quite unnatural, so are relatively easy to distinguish from chest notes. Think Marwan's lowest note in Arabian Nights or when Geoff's iconic ending to Oogie Boogie's Song. Chest-fry: this is the one that is most natural and chest sounding, and its just very thick, chest connected vocal fry. Kind of like the lower version of mixed voice. They tend to sound quite thick, cracklier than chest notes but much harder to distinguish. Think Tim's low note at the end of the last verse of Folsom Prison Blues. I think Tim's low note in the new version here is fry or low chest, like I said its hard to tell with this one. Growl: this one sounds quite different because its made with the false vocal folds, and tends to sound like that whispery, subwoofery bass. Think Tim's low note at the end of Ring of Fire or Tomi's narration in the middle of Arabian Nights. Inhale fry: this one probably sounds the most unnatural, which is why its very rarely used for text. It tends to sound rattly, sometimes buzzy like a subharmonic. Think Tomi's low note underneath the main vocal at the end of Lullaby of Woe or Layne at the end of Sh-Boom. Again, I hope this is helpful to you or anyone else that is interested, its really hard to tell unless you get an idea of what youre looking (or listening!) for. Hopefully my weird adjectives get the idea across! Thanks for the amazing reaction!

During the live version you mentioned the usefulness of having the body in sync with the vocal demands. This was in connection with Austin pointing upward. Similarly, Tim is known to use his right handpushing downward when he goes very low. But the best example of that is all of Adam Rupp's very animated motions. Much of it, I am sure, provides shaping and breath support for various sounds, but I think the drumming motions and some others are a reinforcement of what sound he is making.

Why was Austin smiling in the 'face' of that leaf blower? My bet is it was because he was on the fantastic high that singing and being with the others gives him. He lives for singing - well and for Amberly - and being a goofball. Every time I watch Adam resist the wind I think of the hundreds and thousands of hours he spent with a trumpet at his lips - builds up a really strong embouchure muscles. It's always fun watching you watch HF - no matter the type of song. And thank you for reminding me to go watch that conversation you had with Qofy - it's been in my Watch Later list all this time.

The reason that Austin and Tim took the leads was because that was what the judges wanted. When the group rebelled and gave Rob the lead on Colder Weather,the judges were not happy. They claimed Rob was a little flat and nervous. I was completely untrue. You could see Austin was not happy. Rob has never been off pitch. Tim says Rob is the best singer in the group. I was watching a BTS,can't remember which one. Rob was talking to Darren Rust in the studio. Darren played a screechy Rob note. Rob looked at him and said,Did you just autotune me? Darren broke into laughter and said yes. It was a joke by Darren on Rob. It was funny. Pretty much told me that Rob doesn't get autotuned 😂

if you go back to when Chris Rupp was in the group Austin almost Always had the lead. very seldom did anyone else have the lead. Sometimes you may have Tim taking front and center but mostly Austin. Once he left and chance came aboard the leads were less of anyone in particular and played to whoever strengths the song leaned towards. As much as i liked Chris, and know how much of an instrumental part ( as a co-founder of the group) of Home Free, i think he was holding them back by having Austin always being the lead. i think they really started to flourish when everyone started taking turns as the lead and having parts in a song instead of just always being backup.
