There's LOTS MORE to explore! The only mistake you can make is listening to their cover of "Mayday" (by Cam) too soon. In order to get maximum enjoyment from this great performance, you need to know all the guys and their voices. Between this and "Misty Mountains", you know Tim Foust. In live performances, he breaks things with his voice. Speaker blow-outs are "normal" and once he brought down the roof (a chunk of ceiling rattled loose and crashed onto the stage!) Austin Brown sang the lead on this one. He's HF's high tenor. He was great in this, but even better in their Valentine's Day release of "When a Man Loves a Woman" -- a cover of the 1966 hit by Percy Sledge. Rob Lundquist is the other tenor. You heard a sample of his voice here, but he really shines in their cover of Boyz II Men's "End of the Road." Adam Chance (baritone) did the jew's harp sound in this performance, but not a solo. He has a great voice, and you get to know him in "American Pie", "Cover Me Up", "The Gambler", and "Some Girls Do"...just to name a few. Adam Chance goes by "Chance" in the group, in order to avoid confusion with the beat boxer Adam Rupp. Adam is an original member of HF, and his beat boxing and sound effects (like the harmonica-free harmonica) are stellar! You hear him throughout almost every HF performance, but in their live concerts, he does "drum solos." Two excellent "drum solo" videos are posted outside HF's YT channel, so you have to know where to find them. This one is from 2015 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5LRfIqCisZ3psk ) and this one was recorded in 2019 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3rac51_j82onZI ). Both are good -- without too much duplication.

I'm always surprised when foreigners think that only Australia has crocs. Those in the US are protected in preserves. That's a gator anyway, not a croc. Gators are throughout southern states, from South Carolina to Texas. Crocs are limited to Florida and South Carolina, although they were once on the Cali-Mexico boarder Its not a didgeridoo, its a jaw harp.

That's a jaw harp, not a didgeridoo, that Adam Chance (dark vest) is simulating with Tibetan throat singing! He's a baritone, which is kind of the sweet spot for harmonic overtone singing. The "harmonica" work by Adam Rupp was so good! He also did the record crackle at the beginning. And the "drum kit". Great reaction. You can hear more of Austin's high tenor in When A Man Loves A Woman. Chance has a great first-ish lead in their collaboration with Don McLean in the remake of American Pie. Don of course gets the first lead. They do a John Denver song with Country Roads. They have been doing some real tear-jerkers lately with Go Rest High On That Mountain and The Travelin' Soldier. A sailor song combo with Sea Shanty Medley! How Great Thou Art is in full 5 part harmony with no beatboxing. The chord structure in those old hymns are so solid. They do a number of pop songs. One of them is Ed Sheeran's "Castle On The Hill". I also like their sense of humor. Moonshine is one of their mildly humorous ones and Butts Remix kind of goes over the edge.

@@bigdream_dreambig Yeah, that was Adam Rupp. I think the little frequency drop in the last half second was engineering. That, EQ and compression are all the effects that I know of. They do some layering because obviously Adam Rupp can't do "drums" and "harmonica" at the same time. And Chance can't sing the baritone part while also doing the jaw harp sound with harmonic overtones. They do most of the studio layering in concert by using loopers.

Home Free is so good. You’re one of the few reactors who noticed Tim going lower after his solo. This song is over 100 years old but was made popular in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou. Adam, the beatboxer, is amazing and was doing the drums, harmonica and other sounds. Chance the singer at the end was doing the mouth harp, which sounds like a didgeridoo. It’s an instrument that is popular in country/blue grass songs. Austin, the lead here is the high tenor but can yodel and do harmonica and some other sounds. Rob with the glasses is a tenor. They are all so talented. They won the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013 the year after Pentatonix. I think they are both the most talented “a cappella” groups out there. Great reaction Sabina! They sing country but can sing all genres. Try Helplessly Hoping, I Can’t Outrun You, Die a Happy Man to hear more great harmonies.

Welcome to Home Free! If you want to check out Austin (tenor and the one you mentioned with great control, etc) then I would say do their version of When A Man Loves a Woman! Austin KILLS it! And he does a cover of Unchained Melody under his name Austin Brown! For all of Home Free: Ring of Fire (feat Avi Kaplan who you know from PTX). Watch out for EPIC low notes. Also, do their cover of Cam's Mayday (be prepared for some holy cow are they really switching it up?) Tim's range is phenomenal! I would say for a good laugh do their Never Gonna Give You Up cover. They do a fantastic The End of The Road cover of Boyz II Men! And they team up with Oak Ridge Boys for Elvira (fantastic cohesion and mixing the old and new!)

Yep, Home Free is a blast. Can we divest ourselves of the Australian references? If there is any sound more American than Home Free, I can't guess what/who it would be. It's great how they blend a beatboxer with acapella voices, isn't it? Truly innovative. And yes, their bass singer is a rare specimen. But those weren't crocodiles in the video. Those were alligators ('gators). *Very* different animals. 'Gators aren't nearly as dangerous. They're rather mild beasties, actually. Golf Courses in the South routinely see 'gators wandering across the fairways and greens, nobody pays them any attention. That is not how one reacts to crocodiles that big! Years ago, a friend and I did a day canoeing trip in the Okefenokee swamp on the border of North Florida and Southern Georgia. We paddled down a channel through the swamp, and as we progressed, 'gators on the banks would slip into the water ahead of us, heading right for where we intended to paddle. We'd get close and they would slap their tails on the water and dive. That's their escape, to go as deep as they can. They don't want to mess with people unless they're really tiny people. Once in a blue moon a 'gator might grab a toddler, that's about it. Supervise your toddlers, people! Later that day, we sat in the canoe on a small lake in the center of the swamp. I had my binoculars out and was watching the anhingas. My friend was fiddling with his 35 mm camera with a zoom lens. It was peaceful, quiet, sunny, pleasant... suddenly, all at once, an explosion of action! My friend let out a yell and fell backward, the canoe rocked violently; and a 'gator, which probably had crawled out on a log to sun itself next to the canoe, noticed him at the same time and fled with much thrashing and splashing. We laughed afterward. We couldn't decide who was more startled, my friend or the 'gator. That little tale hasn't much to do with Home Free, but as you're a furriner, and crocodiles sprang into your mind on seeing the video, I thought it might be a kindness to give you a fuller impression of what it was you actually saw. Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands can keep their crocodiles. I like our 'gators much better.

As a Miami native, and frequent camper in the Everglades as a kid, I can agree with what was written. Gators mainly are pretty feral and want nothing to do with humans, but they sure are quick & scary looking, especially if you get an ol' bull Gator close to ya.

@@miamidolphinsfan Your experience *far* surpasses mine. Those Southern swamps sure are beautiful, though. The birds! I guess now you're having to wrestle with invasive pythons, eh? Those things will gulp a deer like I would gulp a beer.

People hear what they hear. How many people even here in the US know what a mouth harp is, never mind how it sounds? How many people can tell the difference between a gator and a croc that don't live near either one? Once the singing starts people usually hear that they're Americans and not Australians, but until that point getting vibes of Australia isn't unreasonable.
@miamidolphinsfan
@miamidolphinsfan 3 жыл бұрын
@@Urgelt yes the pythons are a total nuisance animal unfortunately introduced into the Glades back in the 1970's...they have no known natural enemies as they are not native here, so their population just exploded. Same with iguanas who with the pythons are helping to destroy the Everglades, and that is having an effect on the climate here in South Fla, which it's already different than when I grew up here in the 1960's & 1970's. It doesn't rain as much as it did in the Summer

First time viewer here, thanks for the reaction. Would love to see more Home Free reactions from you. They weren't trying to replicate Australian sounds it was a jew harp and deep southern US. And Adam was working on his harmonica sounds with Chance doing some great stuff. Home Free has so many songs to choose from, would love to hear "How Great Thou Art".

There where so many other great songs in absolut perfect performances. They make the covers to their own songs and the videos are most very funny. Or sentimental (Go rest high on that mountain or Travellin' soldier).

Home Free is: Earlier Years Chris Rupp (usually wearing a Cowboy Hat & always smiling) and Adam Rupp, the Beatboxer founded the Group. Chris went Solo in 2016 with which he is doing Very Well! Adam Chance who goes by Chance was brought in to replace Chris! Chance is the Baritone that has a 4 Octave Range. He can replace Tim, the Group's Bassist when needed as Chance was the Bassist in his previous Group before Home Free. Back to Adam Rupp, he's the incredibly talented Beatboxer and can sing well too! His Beatboxing is above and beyond any other Beatboxer that I have seen! He's also won several Beatboxing Championships to boot!😁😁 Now to Tim, the Group's Bassist has a 5 Octave Range so he can Lead the Group as a Bassist or a Tenor or something in between! He's Phenomenal and he's also taught some other Bassists from other Acapella Group's to be able to do certain things that allow them to get Lower and hit Notes they weren't able to before now. The Bearded Singer is the Group's Tenor and he is Awesome! Such a Creamy Tone and at times his Range is incredible too! To end the Group's Members is Austin the Group's High Tenor. This man is unbelievable! He can hit the highest of the highest of notes and he still can do Low Notes almost Baritone standards! Now hopefully you can get caught up with the Group's Members!

New subscriber! Came for the Homefree! Great reaction! Homefree is 5 of the most talented men in music! Homefree 101: First the beatboxer/ vocal percussionist is Adam Rupp aka the freak of nature. He is amazing. First tenor to sing was Austin Brown to hear him in different lead listen to " When a Man loves a Woman. The second tenor( beardcand glasses) Rob Lundquist to hear his lead singing their cover of " End of the Road", their bass is Tim Foust . He has a 5 octave singing voice. From tenor to low low bass. They just put out a new song in which he shares the lead with Austn " Land of the Free" which he cowrote. The other guy in the back next to beatboxer with dark hair, hat and beard is Adam Chance( we call him Chance) he is the groups baritone/ bass. He takes over the bass when Tim sings lead . To hear him in lead listen to "Cover me up". They share the lead amongst them all. Different ones lead. And their harmonies are perfection! To hear those harmonies check out "Helplessly Hoping". They are all amazing talents! Please check out more Homefree and ya Homefries (Homefree fans) will be back to support them!!! Thank you for your reaction!

The instrumental imitation that so many reactors have termed a didgeridoo is actually a mouth harp or "Jew's harp," though it is not a stringed instrument like a harp and has no historical connection to the Jews. Nor is it a wind instrument like the didgeridoo. It's a lamellophone, a family of instruments that developed in parallel in Asia and Africa, beginning about 4,000 years ago. The sound is made by plucking a thin vibrating tine (called a lamella or tongue) made of metal, reed, or bamboo -- somewhat like a tuning fork. As European world exploration and colonial empires spread, various versions of these instruments were taken to Europe, and from there to the North American colonial frontier. Because of its simplicity and portability, the single-tined mouth harp became very popular among American pioneer families migrating to the Appalachian highlands and beyond. It is still a mainstay instrument of Bluegrass music to this day, and is sometimes used in the broader genre of Country & Western. The mouth harp does sound remarkably like a didgeridoo, but many multi-tined lamellophones sound more like marimbas.
