So happy to hear you all like the reaction- thank you for all the comments and for "liking" the video!! Heard loud and clear that Chance's "jaw harp" is at the end of the video (during our light mishap 🤣) I promise, we rewatched and see what you mean. SO COOL!!! Thanks for watching, everyone!! ✌🏽

Now, introduce her to Peter Hollens and Tim doing "Misty Mountains". I really want to see her reaction to Tim on that one. In all truth, my very favorite HF song is "Do You Hear What I Hear" which was arranged by Adam. And what Chance is doing is actually Mongolian throat singing.

There was a quick second when Chance was doing his didgeridoo or jaw harp near the end of the video. He also does other sounds like guitar. You should check out "Can't Stop The Feeling" again. Watch them when they stop singing and do only instrumental sounds. These guys are all so talented and all contribute to the "music" in their a capella songs.

Nice you are sharing this fabulous group with your wife. I think she is a homefry now. This was the first song I ever heard from Home Free & I was instantly hooked. It really showcases the talent of these 5 men (their tight harmonies & Tim Foust's bass & Adam Rupp's incredible beatboxing). They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is done in the bluegrass country style. Actually if you watch the very end of the song it shows Chance doing the jaw harp sound. You guys were distracted by your light falling over. And glad you caught Tim's dropping the bass even lower after his solo. I agree that Adam is in a league by himself. Love the cool sounds he is able to make!

You can see Chance doing the mouth harp sound, but it was when you were reacting to the light falling. Go to about 6:08 in THIS video and you can see/ hear him. The mouth harp was also called the Jew's harp, but it has been 'renamed' the jaw harp in recent years.

So happy to see the both of you looking at this Home Free masterpiece again! Don't know how many times I've watched it, through the eyes of many, many reactors, but never get tired of it! Always enjoy your comments -- HF never disappoints. Jillian is right about pre-conceived notions of country music getting in the way of really enjoying a song. This one is not country so much as it's mountain folk music, originating in the Appalachians in the early 20th century.
@Smilodon1985

You DID see him do it (but you were distracted by a studio malfunction...) The genre of music is (sorta) Bluegrass, à la 1910's - this song is originally from 1913, I think. It calls back to old Appalachian roots, and is what *real* origins of country music sound like. When you did your first reaction to these guys, all those millennia ago, I think I welcomed you to the rabbit hole and the Home Fries... Happy #97!

Though published in 1913 by Dick Burnett, who did not compose it, this song is an old American Folk Song. It was old when published - he just put it to paper. Prior to that it was learned "by ear" having originated in & around Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts.

It's by several different names, jews harp, mouth harp, jaw harp. It's a little instrument that has a round piece that you hold in your lips vertically, on side of the circle form a small "handle", barely able to hang on to really, where the handle comes together there is a strip if spring steel that's slightly longer than the body of the harp, it's not very wide, maybe 1/8". To play it, you hum the notes you want while strumming the spring steel (that's what gives it the reverberating sound. Hope that helps a bit. Glad to have you in the video Ninja, Jeremy's a class act but you bring more class!

At the very end of the video, don't even blink or you will miss it, the camera switches to Chance doing the jaw harp sound. It is very understated and only there for a few short seconds. The instrument is known by several names, depending on what part of the country you are from. Jaw harp is the one I hear most often now a days, but from the region my family hailed from it was know under the non-politically correct term of Jews harp, and second in popularity as Juice harp (for obvious reasons, or maybe some people just produce more saliva than other parts of the country) but Chance is the stealth producer of the sound. Hi Tiny ninja and thank you for making Jeremy's channel successful. Love the inter play between you guys. My husband and I are celebrating our fiftieth anniversary this year and by the way you all laugh together you are right on track to one day celebrate your own. Supporting each other the way you do and taking time to laugh together is the right road. Looking forward to more muSIK in the future. 👍

Playing the jaw harp (juice harp/Jew's harp - originally the last of them was the name, and other names came along to avoid obvious social discomfort): You *can't* bite down on it! The secret to getting the characteristic sound out of them is blowing a gentle stream of air across the instrument as you pluck it, and making the movements to vary the pitch REALLY small. It takes a little bit of practice, but once you figure those things out, as a 6th grader with a jaw harp you can be driving your parents crazy in no time. (They never did tell me how my jaw harp mysteriously got "lost" overnight....) But now that I am in my late 50's, with grown kids of my own, I understand what happened a bit better.

Love you guys, especially together. My hubs (of 25 years) and I could totally be friends with y'all. Plus I was born in Annapolis and raised on the Eastern Shore of MD, so you're reaaaaallly close to my roots, right? Anyway, kudos to you guys. You've really done well for starting just in March. Great reaction. Jillian noticed it's raining, btw. She is very observant. Just sayin'. I think this song, at least for me, is more of a bluegrass/southern rock style. The version of this that I know from the Soggy Bottom Boys was faster and more bluegrassy, with an edge. I'm a Home Fry, for sure, but sometimes they're so good that they miss that "edge" that I love in music. Anyway, I love this version. It's probably my favorite. Home Free made this a pseudo hip-hop song, but with this southern rock flare (think Little Feat - Dixie Chicken) and with an added bluegrass flavor. Again, love y'all. We actually want Jillian back. I do, at least.

Nice to see you both. That was really fun! I love this song. There's one thing that has puzzled me since I first heard the Home Free version, though. I already had heard the movie soundtrack that contains the song, which actually refers to the "underground railroad," that was used to transfer slaves from the south to the north, secretly. I kind of thought, back when Home Free came out with it, that they might explain that, but they didn't, and nobody else has ever mentioned it that I've heard (and I've heard a TON of reactions to the song, over the years, now. Since HF sings it as if Austin were the one "riding the train," and Austin is clearly not of the skin color that would have been taking that ride, so many years ago, plus the fact that as much as he tries sometimes, he really can't hide his Georgia, down-home accent, I had wondered if there would be some bad reactions by the people that probably had ancestors that really did "ride that train." I'm happy that there do NOT seem to have been anyone griping about that, even after all this time, but it still puzzles me that nobody even seems to be AWARE of what "train" the song is referring to.

It is a perfect song to showcase their great talent and tempt them into the 🐇 🕳️ and keep going!😃🔥Glad you enjoyed it the second time around and that your Tiny Ninja 🥷 really enjoyed it too!!👏👏👏 Great idea to get her on to see it with you!👍👍. Home Free always makes me happy!😆

One warning about Spanish moss- It is known to carry chiggers! Little red biting bugs that burrow under the skin and are hard to get rid of! The swampy areas are rainy or very humid so it could be rain or sweat on our guys here. Lovely reaction!

Nope, you're right. It is one of their best. It is an old American folk song first published over 100 years ago but versions of it are believed to be much older than that. They did a bluegrass version for the movie "O' Brother How Art Thou", where most people know it from. It has been covered by many famous artists over the years, such as Bob Dillan.

Chance does the jaw harp. They showed him doing it on the video just when you knocked your lamp off the shelf. It is the last scene of the video. This is my favorite song that they do!!

Obviously we love it when the Tiny Nina sneaks in (she cant make an appearance because Ninja are invisible) and I know how you feel about revisiting this song. As someone who works with and follows several reactors and other content creators I always love it when I get back to this one. Just a few things, its called a "Juice Harp" and this genre is Bluegrass. Quote of the video "Why Rocked the Light Off". As always, amazing reaction, keep doing what you do and yes, we want the Ninja as often as possible.

If you watch the last shot of Chance in the video you will see him making the Jaw harp sound. Its very short but it's there.

Yes, Chance was doing the jaw-harp. If you pay attention to when they go to the shot of just Chance you could see it. I don't know if you know that Adam taught himself how to beatbox from VHS tape. Enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.

Gotta do the Ninja sneak-in during the videos now. That was "Southern Bluegrass," and you missed Chance do the Jaw Harp at the end when the light got knocked over.

You can see it Chance doing it at the very end...when the light fell. Lol. This song is OLD. It was first written down around 1914 but was sung before that. It's sometimes called the Farewell Song. And the type is called Old Timey, which led to Bluegrass and the formation of country music.

This song is considered Blue Grass. Great rereaction. You can see Chance doing the jaw harp sound in the background. It's one of the last shots of him.
