A shanty is a song that sailors used to help them in their work, using the rhythm to co-ordinate their movements. There were different songs mashed together.

This is so good. Chance (knit hat) came up with the Shanty medley as he’s a big fan of sea shanties (or sailor/pirate songs). It came out during Covid and became a huge hit. It attracted Ubisoft, the game maker, to Home Free. They asked Chance to write a song for their new game called Skull and Bones and they now have a new song Skull and Bones and it’s great. They have a lyric video and short live version for the Ubisoft crowd you can see. Tim goes insanely low in it. It’s so much fun. This is great!!! Love the crowd too!😄🤩

Home Free posted first shanty in this medley on TikTok, and the sound went mega viral on there. Lots of Tiktoks used it.

Sea shanties are work songs used in the time of sailing ships to help sailors work together in time. For instance, when hauling lines for sails or anchors and you've got twenty men pulling on it, you want them all to pull at the same time. A song with a strong beat helps them pull together on the beat. A lot of people associate these songs with pirates for some reason, but they were common on all sorts of sailing ships. As someone mentioned, the word shanty derives from the French verb chanter - to sing, or the command form of the verb: chantez. Both are pronounced like "shan-tay".

Sea shanties were commonly sung on maritime vessels (i.e. navies, fishing boats, etc.) in much the same way that marching songs are used by armies - co-ordinate work. This video is a medley - that is a group of different songs put together. Home Free also has a "Hunter Hayes Medley", "Country Fried Pop Medley" and a mash-up of "Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get it On".

Sea shanties, or nautical shanties, are the work songs of sailors. Often sung in call and response fashion, shanties coordinate the actions of sailors in specific tasks. The singing of shanties evolved from more primitive chants and calls to coordinate work on board sailing vessels. They evolved with British and northern European sailors during the 16th century. Shanties sung by American sailors include older European and American songs, adaptations of these songs, and original creations. The 1820s through the 1860s were the peak years for American shantying.

Great reaction! Yeah, it's a medley of several songs. Only Home Free could have us jamming out to pirate songs! If you haven't reacted yet, try the Butts Medley or some people call it the Butts Remix. Absolutely freaking hilarious! You get to see the funny side of our guys. Or try Listen to the Music for some excellent harmonies and instrument sounds that makes you want to get up and dance. I also recommend Everybody Walkin This Land as kind of intro to their belief system. I think you'll understand them better afterwards. And yes, I'm subscribing to you. Wasn't that great! Finally a professional live recording! This is one of my favorite medleys. Fan recordings on their phones can never clearly capture the true sound. So glad Home Free did this.
