A huge statement has been reinforced numerous times over the last half dozen years when notorious artists have collaborated with Home Free in singing legacy hits and in several cases have reached out to Home Free. Home Free has shown extraordinary respect to these artists to the point there is mutual respect and admiration that is very visible both ways. Home Free is a very humble group of guys who know how to pay their respects as they showcase these well-respected and well-known artists. Just wow, and we are the benefactors of this wonderful trust as they deliberately give each other and us a chance to enjoy once again a freshness to the decades that gone on before us with a wonderful tribute. Home Free is showing the industry a strong core value of High Regard, Strong Consideration, Attentiveness, High Opinion, and Due Regard for those who have set the stage for the music we enjoy today. Thank You Home Free, for your leadership by action that we all admire and appreciate doing things the right way!!!!! Notice the portrait at the end the center one has Don and Home Free amongst the ones hanging on the wall they are looking at. The warmth that Home Free brings to the song backing up Don is simply so pleasing to the ear!! ❣ Well done Jenn!!💟

Don McLean has been singing this beautiful song for over 50 years and it’s often made me cry. I knew I was in trouble when I realised Home Free was covering it with him but I still wasn't prepared for how good it is. It's such a perfect way of telling Van Goghs story and they are such wonderful storytellers. Nice to see you reacting to Home Free again.

I love how the guys respect Don McLean so much. He is older now and might not be able to get those high notes any more, so Austin takes those passages for him and the rest hang back just being the backing vocals for a musical legend. I cried as well. I always loved this song.

This is so gorgeous. It's so impressive that Don invited them to back him on the re-release of his two most iconic songs. They also back him on the title song of his new album, American Boys. There's an audio-only video on Don's channel. It's a bop.

This song has always had a special place in my heart. As an artist with a love for Van Gogh, it has always made me teary eyed. Don created a masterpiece with this and his soft tones always elicited emotions for me. But this time, with Rob's gentle tenor blending with Don's...I cried and I still cry hearing it. From what I understand, Don wrote it at a tough time in his life after reading a book about Van Gogh and wanted to express the paintings as well as portraying Vincent not as crazy but a person dealing with mental illness and depression at at time when there was no understanding of it. Rob said it is one of his all time favorite songs and is shows in the fact that he was able in his gentle tones to express the sadness of the loss of the artist. Plus Rob's voice and tone are so close to Don's, as if Rob's voice is almost a younger version of Don's. So I get the teary eyes...I'm right there with you.

Many years ago I took Art History in college from a professor that mostly used slide shows to portray the different art movements and influences in a way that was very easy to follow. When he covered Van Gogh we could tell he really admired him - he got a little emotional talking about his death and his delayed influence. Then he said we could leave at any time and re-showed all of Van Gogh's art set to 'Vincent', crying quietly. Most of us hugged him on our way out.

Jen - This by far is my favorite Cover/Collab from HF. The tragic story behind the song is so emotional yet so tragically sweet. I loved Don's solo version so much but this rendition places this song in my all time top five. It speaks to all of us about the inherent dangers of depression and what it can lead to. We know so many in our everyday lives who are experiencing this dreaded disease in one level or more. None of use are immune to it sad to say.

The masterful poetry and gentle, loving simplicity of the melody and the real tragedy behind the song never ever failed to bring tears in my eyes. I love it but don't listen to it too often because of the emotional impact it has on me. Somehow this version is even more impactfull. Usually I avoid covers but with HF it's different, they treat the songs they cover always with so much respect. They always add to the song without hurting the original which is exceptionally rare nowadays.

I thought HF's cover of American Pie with Don McLean to celebrate that song's 50th anniversary was incredible, but I think I like this one even more. They have such a fantastic sound together, it's as if they've always worked this way! Don's voice still sounds like it did on his original release, and Rob again shows he is such a chameleon, adapting his tone to fit the song's emotion perfectly. Another lovely reaction, Jen, and by all means, let the emotions flow over and through you. Great music touches the soul! Looking forward to the next one. 🤗

Thanks Jen, without a lot of singing, I think this was one of their best with a guest star! I haven’t heard if this song with Home Free was Don’s idea as well but their arrangement was extraordinary! Rob was exactly what the song called for with Don. No matter if Vincent was disturbed or if he just couldn’t express himself well, I think Don’s words captured the delicate subject perfectly, almost as the beautiful paintings he was known for! Very touching song and great respect from our friends, Home Free! Your friend, low bass Kenneth.

Thanks for your reaction & analysis. Nice top! This is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.

Psych RN here. It was more than just depression. Experts say he likely had schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. With major depressive disorder or bipolar present also. Music is supposed to elicit emotions, and this collaboration certainly does that. There are more 'a capella hands' in this video than in most, and I love to see that. That is the real reason for front pockets on their pants - to keep their thumbs hostage so they can't direct. And Chance's pockets never let his go. But I expect that Adam's are screaming at him to "MOVE" since he uses them to visualize his percussion so much.

Truly phenomenal! What a voice Don McLean still has! And of course Austin also sang great, but Rob's voice is just perfect for this song. His voice so warm, soft as silk and full of emotion. The quiet not overwhelming background vocals and guitar playing complete it for me. It's the same beautiful song as my youth, but with the Home Free twist it's something different. A beautiful song where I, of course, as a Dutch person, know the history of Vincent van Gogh well. I lived not far from his birthplace for a while. If I could, I would have given Don McLean and Home Free a bouquet of sunflowers in memory of Vincent. The sunflower one of his most famous paintings 🌻 💖 💖💖💖💖💖

I had the pleasure of seeing Don McLean sing this song in concert two years ago. It happened to be Van Gogh's birthday, so it was a special day. This was just beautiful and such a well thought out collaboration. There was nothing to distract from the music and the background vocals and harmonies were extremely tasteful. They let Don shine and really lifted his heartfelt vocals, the emotion of it caught me off guard. Rob has just the most pure and lovely tone, I felt that he matched Don's delivery and melancholy as it is a bit of a forlorn tune lyrically. Great job by the guys all around and as always you are fun to watch Jen. I enjoyed your insights and energy for this one as I always do. Ty for the great vid.

Loved your informed reaction. Hadn’t noticed the looks on Tim and the two Adams when they dropped out until you pointed it out. The song was made even more meaningful. Thank you!

As great as a Jen - HF collaboration would be, I don't want her to replace Austin... The tour schedule would interfere with my favorite reactions!

Tim is a foodie so that's probably really true what he said to Chance, although it wouldn't be just fries, He would be saying "after this let's get some Crawfish etouffee" or "Gumbo" or "Bananas Foster"

Such a beautiful while still tragic song! Although it's about Van Gogh it could be about so many more of us.
