I am still working on getting the casting right. I am so very close, but every time there is a small problem. I am trying to cast using the lost pla method. The print takes 12 hours, then the mould takes another 12. The investment is expensive and in my country we so not have electricity every day all day. BUT I am going to do another casting this week. Expect an update....

Hey Eliezer, I have not given up at all and is burning to return to this project. With the situation in the world, I had to pause the project and work much more, so there has not been time to play. My dad spent some time building a enclosure for the NC machine and we are testing tomorrow. THEN ITS GO TIME !

I also commented another video from you because i also want to machine an engine so so bad :D Where did you get the technical drawings from? Did you make them or from some where else? Do you have a complete Set for this engine? :D I'm doing an apprenticeship to become a precision mechaninc and this would be a really nice project to machine. I know many questions and propably i'm annoying you sorry for that :D Hope to see more of your Project soon.

To reduce backlash you should tighten the scew in the handle And for the lower oil ring you could had try cuting in on the cnc like driling a lot of small holes in the cast iron and when you cut it the remaining would be humped like the ring and when facing the tool should be at an angle just like when turning

Finally some progress, now when you saw that this lathe can turn steel you could make gudgeon pins out of steel instead aluminum. How's the head casting going?

06:55 - Please find out why your tool-post moves when you take a cut, and fix it. You will be very pleased with the result! I suggest lifting the tool-clamp block to check for trapped swarf, or a distorted mating-face to the compound slide.
@TheXSpitfire4 жыл бұрын
I have stripped the the lathe, cleaned it and tried to tighten the gibs when I bought it. It really is "you get what you pay for" with the cheaper mini lathes. But I have since learned a bit more and will redo the setup.

Hi Dymitr, I am still hoping to finish it. With the global lock-down I could not make any progress and none of the materials or tools I ordered arrived yet. My country is also still under strict lock-down. I am hoping to to make some silicone gaskets so that I can do a vacuum casting of the head using investment. Holding thumbs to continue soon.

First of all, thank you so much for sharing this phenomenal series with us, but I am curious as to the surface finish on the inside of the sleves and the outside of the piston rings in therms of friction, do you think it is possible to build a smaller engine than yours and have it turn over with just a lathe finish and I would also be interrested on how tight tollerances you are manifacturing the key parts. Thank you so much in advance. Sincerely, Me
@TheXSpitfire4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment. I am sure it will be possible have a smaller engine, the only reason this one is 25cc per cylinder is to fit the two valves in the bore. I was not too sure about turning steel on my mini lathe when I started, but now realize it could have been a lot smaller. For the sleeve and rings, I turned them with as smooth as a finish I could and then used emery paper to finish. I expect poor compression at first, but as the rings and sleeves interact, I am hoping that the cast iron will seed itself. Once the lockdown is lifted in my country I will be picking up some speed to finish this, also wonder if it will work :). Keep well Matrin.
@gallupcustomknives22934 жыл бұрын
Very cool! You reduced the valve ‘shank’ in an attempt to increase airflow? That guide looks quite loose to me, but maybe you can incorporate an oil seal at the top also, like modern bikes and cars use?
@TheXSpitfire4 жыл бұрын
Spot on! I was hoping it would increase airflow. I could only get 6mm bearings, but wanted 4mm shanks. The guides are self lubricanted and a fairly tight fit, as close tolerance as I can do with with my knowledge and machine. Not too sure what will happen when they heat up....

I can’t wait to see your cylinder head design!
@mostwanted339864 жыл бұрын
Why did you make a 2 diameter shaft ? You need the valves to seat tight in the holes! You can make the lower diameter larger than the upper one it will work but still doesn’t make any sense
