I recently built a an auto body Frame pulling machine. I've been wanting my own frame rack for a while now, because every time I get a vehicle that requires some sort of pull, whether it's a frame pull or just having some thicker sheet metal that I wouldn't be able to handle with just my bare hands, I have to resort to having to rent a frame rack at some body shop for a day or so, but most shops don't like to rent out their Chassis repair equipment, and a lot of time you have to wait a while before you can even get onto a frame machine, because they are normally in use. And I didn't really want to buy a frame rack because most of them are very large and super heavy and on top of that, a used car bench will set you back 5-6K. So that option was a deal breaker for me, that's when I decided just to put together my own setup that was portable also I saved a bunch of money in the process.

a caroliner frame rack designer took 10 years to achieve this same design an you took a few days to take over his prime idea and even mastered it...!! genius indeed.!!!! hopefully it wont become a nightmare finding a spot for it when not in use.
@fix206

Thanks for a compliment bro, one of the main points for my design was that I could stand the base of a rack on it's side when not in use, thus reducing it's footprint to almost nothing. Something I wouldn't have been able to do with caroliner without the use of forklift, since caroliner weighs quiet a bit more.

@@fix206 are you nuts mate those fucking frame racks weigh as much as a fucking train mate...i work at this bodyshop were you gotta carried those racks all over the shop just to either use it or store it but good thing yours are lighter then all of them

I'm certain that a caroliner is much sturdier/capable/heavier duty rack then mine, with much thicker gauge metal. It would be a great rack for a shop, but all I got right now is my driveway. Cant even imagine pushing the caroliner around on an uneven ground :)

Great job man. I considered welding up a simple setup for vector pulling for a long time, but I eventually tripped across a used Dataliner 80, and saved myself the time doing it. I'll probably still fab up some universal jig fixtures for times when sill clamps won't work. In any case, I'm thrilled to finally see someone put a DIY video up for this kind of thing. I think that rig will serve you well.

Pulling vid will be here real soon. I do enjoy working outside, but since I live in Seattle I have to put work on pause a lot due to rain :( As far as the welder goes, this thing is a soldier, I am very impressed with it. Originally bought it thinking that I'd be returning it since it is a "Harbor Freight welder", however after putting it through a trial run, I decided that this thing is definitely a keeper, It worked GREAT and earned it's keep :)

This will work great for a front or rear end wreck, but I think you should have welded the 1/2" plate to the boom instead of on the one end of the frame. That way it can be used on the sides as well. A and B pillars take hits and need to be pulled as well!! Otherwise, great job!!
@fix206
@fix206 4 жыл бұрын
I actually have another half inch piece of plate that is loose, meaning if I'll clamp the tower to the side of the deck then I'll just put down that loose piece on top of the frame tube where ever the tower would have to be placed at any given time, the plate that I welded on partially tied front tube to the side ones thus giving the front of the rack a bit more rigidity, since that area will likely see most action.

Thank you Donald, I've looked at a bunch of pictures of different frame racks online and based on that I've created an idea of what I've wanted... I think it turned out great, already proved itself on a couple of pulls including one frame pull. There is a video of the rack in action right here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWqkZ5qCi554mKc

Thanks man, I just looked though your KZbin playlists and one of them contains a lot of homemade frame racks, funny thing is I've watched a lot of those same vedios to get my inspiration from. And a lot and that's where a lot of ideas for different parts of my frame rack came from :) Cheers!!!

Great job. It would be nice to have had one of those when I was working in auto body. It would also be nice to have two post for compound pulls. With your skills, you can make another pulling post.

The guy that I bough the post from did have 3 more posts available for sale. I might run out and grab another one for compound pulls just as you've mentioned.
