Great idea as you have made it. It locks itself in the miter slot. I was just searching for a magnetic switches for jigslooking to using for a featherboard as well when coming across your solution. It much cheaper and it works as well.

Thank you for the time and effort to make your videos. One of my viewers encouraged me to research featherboards to make my saw safer. Your video is helpful.

good videos, great ideas- make 1 thick feather board and rail clamp totally complete and then cut both in 1/2 for 2 at once time

Nice, thanks. Side note: you can get a small selection of hardwoods at the big box stores, but not in the isle with 2x4's. The HD near me has poplar, oak, and mahogany.

If you don't have any of that 'fancy' lubricating wax for the bolt threads you can use a bar of regular old bath soap as an alternative. It makes hammering nails into hardwood that much easier too. A tip I learnt from my father, who learnt it from his father who was a carpenter. 8-)

Didn't see how you cut the fingers to get them evenly spaced.
@ChrisSmith-yx1iu9 жыл бұрын
@Scroungineer , what is the width of the fingers? 1/4" and the spacing is 1/4" ? does it matter as long as i keep them even? and also how far back does each finger progress ?

You need to check out other videos where they rip down two pieces of timber that are glued to gather then it fits perfectly into the track so there is no wast at all!

What was the purpose of grinding the countersunk screws (what you referred to as "stove bolts") heads flat on two sides? Was it to keep them from rotating while the you put tension on the knobs? I like the overall design you came up with. Thanks.
@Scroungineer10 жыл бұрын
Precisely as you said--grinding the flat edges keeps them from spinning when tightened. In the future though, I'm going to do something a little different--I'll grind 2 flat spots on opposite sides of the threads (just under the screw-head) so that the shaft is only as wide as the original saw-cut slot. Then I'll insert the stove-bolt into the "relief hole", and slide it into place in the counter-sink cone. (I won't drill the main bolt-hole as I did here, only the countersink.) Hope that makes sense. That should work better to prevent spinning.

Scroungineer A little tip I learned: If you drill your countersink first, then drill the hole from the point of the countersink, you'll get a cleaner countersink

are you sure the stove bolts and the flat washers would tighten up snugly enough? I would think T slot bolts would work better. good video though

If you only activate the item in the slot, there should be no worries about expanding the slot and splitting. Provided you are talking about small expansion.

here in Australia,you have THREE choices in timber,unless you go to a specialty supplier.You have Pinus radia(monteray pine)Tasmanian oak/Victorian ash.Neither what their name says.BOTH are Eucalypt.And Plain Generic gumtree.(eucalypt)

I really appreciate other woodworkers sharing their knowledge and experiences, however, there seems to be a tendency to way over explain what is visually obvious. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. This is a common problem with how-to videos.

Countersinks work better with full contact. Do this before cutting slots.
