Why not a unif modem?

Yeah, networking can be “fun”. Especially when things don’t go to plan. I’m surprised your existing ISP provided box didn’t have an admin menu in which you’d be able to set it to modem mode. Most do in my experience.

Mine is a fibre router/modem and it has to be set into modem mode remotely by the ISP

Hello Billy, I am looking for the right PDU for my 2 channel high end hifi system….running a new circuit with outlets is out of the question, I must use the existing outlet..would that Tripp Lite you have in the rack be a good choice, I see it’s made in China or do you have a better choice?…I need at least the bare minimum 8 outlets for my Pass Labs amps…thanks..

Hey Charles. The Tripplite RS1215 is my standard PDU that I spec. I probably use over 100 per year and have for the past decade. If all you need are additional outlets, the RS1215 is a great product. I'll list a link to a video where I take one apart and modify it so you can see its guts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmTPXoGBbKysr6M

How often do you guys have power outages? Is it really worth getting a UPS and generator for those 2 Hours every 2-3 Years?

If you have a nas or some sort of data storage (or anything that shouldn't be powered off unexpectedly) get a ups

i havent used coax for internet in years but i could not afford that network switch as for that ups it probably needed a battery replacement some of them will refuse to power on with a bad battery i think its a safety measure.....i wouldnt need for it to supply IP address as the google wifi puck ihave would just give the addresses

I'm guessing a new pair of batteries might fix it as well, but they are a bit expensive to get the OEM ones, and tricky to source generics as they are actually a very tight fit in that particular unit. I have the same one and have to replace the batteries twice now. I think the first set of batteries (the ones that came with the unit) lasted about four years and some generics I sourced lasted 2.5-3 years. The third round I ordered generics that didn't have the listed specs so they didn't fix so I just picked up an OEM replacement pack. There is an APC model out now in a similar size that is a bit more expensive but has a lithium ion battery instead of lead acid's that is supposed to last a lot longer. That one may be the better value in the long run if the battery lasts as long as advertised.

Some people are not blessed with fiber in their area.

a power company would not be using fiber your thinking of a internet service provider

in our area some of the power companies offer internet 2 they got money from the government to help Provide internet to rural communities. they sub most of their construction out to contractors to run their fiber @dawn1berlitz @@dawn1berlitz

I find the copper coax to be “warmer” than fiber. It’s closer to analog. My Spotify just sounds better over coax.

Just a little tip for running a single AP, WiFi falls so you want to mount it high up and central, this way you'll get much better coverage as long as you can run a cable to a sensible location. Networking infrastructure is mounted in ceilings in commercial properties for a reason.

Wi-Fi, an electromagnetic wave, does not fall. The recommended location for mounting an AP depends on its radiation pattern. The AP shown at 1:18 could be mounted in a better location/orientation, whereas the AP shown at 13:41 is mounted correctly for the scenario.
