Thanks so much. I recently moved from a house to an apartment. I work from home. When I was moving into the apartment it didnt occur to me to check for an ethernet plug in the wall. Decided to make the front side room my office and back room into a bedroom. When I was setting up all the home office connections etc. I realized the back room has the ethernet plug and the side room has a coaxial cable. Was searching through other videos and they don't address this so direct like you do Unfortunately my best option is number 2 but just happy to have a resolution now

thanks for the demo and video. I was contemplating on Moca for my extended garage, but ethernet seems simple and easy to setup. I bought an outdoor rated ethernet cable. Have a great day.

Another option that worked out for me was getting a mesh wifi 6 system that has built in ethernet ports on each router/satellite. It was just under $200 for a 2 pack and I run ethernet cables to the closest router/satellite. Even though the satellite mesh device connects to the internet/router via wifi, I definitely noticed a difference when I hardwired my computer and xbox to it instead of by wifi. Not as cheap as buying a few long ethernet cables but still cheaper than most other options.

you should check if your router is already MoCA compatible or not. the router i got from xfinity already was. if so, then you only need to buy one MoCA device, which you can get for around $60-70 nowadays (at 2.5 mbps), which is more than you'll ever need. then you can just connect the MoCA into the MoCA outlets in your room, which is especially an easier option if you live in a home that was built a long time ago that doesn't have any ethernet wiring/outlets built into it, and keeps you from having to run wires all around across your house. you will also need to buy MoCA compatible splitters though if you go with the MoCA if the splitters you already have aren't compatible.

MOCA 2.5 will deliver legit 2.5G speeds, no overhead signaling mixed in. I have 4 adapters with a 2.5G Ethernet port around the house, about $200 invested. That might sound expensive, but consider the cost of running CAT 6 and buying a small (substantially more expensive) switch with 2.5G ports. Due to the nature of MOCA, I essentially have a four 2.5G port Etherner switch built into the network as a bonus.

With all that extra cable why not run the cable around the perimeter of that closet instead of using brown tape?
@Skullbone

I actually ended up using extra slack to go around the back edges of the closet.. When first put it down and videoed it I didn't think I would have as much extra cable as I did. But I agree, the brown tape option was just an off the cuff comment and would have eventually annoyed me to have to look at it. lol

Thanks! looks like a low-cost alternative that should work for me. Good job on the video.

Can anyone help me? I have T-Mobile WIFI tower an employment opportunity calls for a hard wired connection. Will this work for me and will the company be able to tell the difference does it matter?

Do you have any videos for people who don’t have a coaxial plug on their wall in their bedroom, but want to have cable Internet

Thanks for the video showing how to do this. I am a bit concerned though about the cord running across the top of the steps. Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

Valid concern, although the cable seemed secure enough pinched under the wood, I eventually went back and added a couple of clamps just as an added safety measure.

Should MoCA be able of going thru 500ft of coax? What is the length limit for the coax?

How close is the master bedroom with the spare bedroom? You could have added a small switch in the master bedroom and then ran the cable from that room to your spare bedroom, if more convenient.

With the MOCA adapter, do I need it to be connecting to a router or modem of some sort? I have my router and modem upstairs connected upstairs on the Coax network in my home, and then downstairs in my basement there is a coax plugin available. Do I need to setup anything downstairs or can I simply use the adapter, connect it to my COAX, and then use the Ethernet port to wire to my computer for INTERNET? Please help!

If you haven't bought the MOCA yet, first make sure your ROUTER has MoCA CAPABILITY built-in or provided to the router by an additional MoCA Adapter. Good news is the MoCAs are cheaper than when i made this vid (assuming your not needing 4k compatibility). Most FiOS routers have MoCA capability built-in. Aside from that, the most you need is 2 coax cables and two ethernet cords to hardwire an device out of wifi range via coax plugs. Simply put, these things are pretty hassle free. Worst case scenario, you buy via amazon and take advantage of their return policy if they don't provide what you expect for the pricetag. I'm still running with my long and cheap ethernet cable and it's working great. Hope this helps!

I'm running +800Mbps over WiFi 6 w/ 160 MHz channel width thru 3 sheet rock walls 45 ft from the router. Key is 160MHz channel width. Note that Mesh systems or "tri-band" WiFi 6 will never give 160MHz channels unless using 6 GHz band (6e) for backhaul. For PC's, you want Intel AX200/AX210 WiFi modules and Asus AX86U router. Choices matter.

My computer is in the basement and I’d like to use a moca adapter because there is a coax cable down there. However, my cable line feeds in upstairs and goes to a splitter, which then goes to my cable box and modem. How would a moca work without disrupting the modem and cable box?
@Skullbone
@Skullbone 3 жыл бұрын
BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: Will NOT work with cable Satellite Not knowing your exact setup or internet/cable provider.. there are some consistencies with results. The more extensive your network (i.e. the more splits you have) the more impact you'll have on your connection. However, the impact should be negligible. If your lines are hooked up properly, you likely would only notice a difference if you ran some test to crunch the numbers. On paper you would see a slight difference, but overall your system should perform at the level expected from your current plan. Please note the following for ethernet to coax adapters: COMPATIBILITY - Compatible with any Ethernet router and virtually any device with an Ethernet port including computers, Xbox 360, PS3, streaming media devices, digital audio streamers and more. NON-COMPATIBILITY - Not compatible with Direct TV, Dish or other satellite TV, AT&T internet, or AT&T U-verse coax networks.

This reminds me of when I used to work in tech support for Telia, a swedish ISP. When customers called to complain about the internet connection, it was often the case that they had hidden the WiFi-router/access-points so they didn't need to see the ugly box. Sometimes it didn't help to just let the WiFi gear out into the open because they lived in a concrete maze within a concrete bunker (sometimes even with mobile broadband as their only option...). Often my dickhead co-workers had sold them some data speed upgrade to "fix" the problem of "bad internet". Other times they had placed lots and lots of WiFi-repeaters all over their concrete bunker/maze, but they were always just communicating wirelessly with each other/the router. I then had to explain that although the extenders could extend the WiFi-range, they can't magically add Mbt/s to an already shitty connection and it could not make the concrete walls any more permiable to the signal. After hearing this some would spitefully ask something along the lines of: "So what should I do about it? Lay out a shitton of ugly ethernet cable to all my devices/access points in every room?" I'd then say that it is EXACTLY what they should do, it's what I would have done and it's what I HAVE done at my own place, and it doesn't even have to be that ugly, as is shown in this video. Sure there are powerline-adapters that use existing power-cables could work fine, depending on how the electrical wiring is done, but they probably cost more then some ethernet cables and aren't quite as good. As the saying goes: "cable is king". In some lucky cases, there was even a fully funcional wired local network in the house/apartment with outlets in every room that the subscribers didn't even know about. I can't even describe the joy that sparked between myself and the customer when I had managed to convince them to let me guide them through the process of installing all their devices through their fantastic wired home-network which they hadn't used up until then, all without having to buy a single thing they didn't have except for maybe a cheap ethernet cable!

What’s your internet speed looking like with that 100ft Ethernet cable.??
@Skullbone
@Skullbone 3 жыл бұрын
I've no impact, especially nothing I can attribute to a long cord. I've ran multiple test and I get what I pay for. At any given time, regardless of household devices running...I avg 2ms, 350 up, 300 down.
