I'm convinced this track was divinely inspired. It's like an audio fractal. No matter how much you slow it down, the beauty remains. No matter how deep you go, the beauty remains.
@HailSocialite3 жыл бұрын
Yo Chris, I’ve never heard of an audio fractal before and I tried to look it up. Nothing really came up - some guitar effects were the main result. Do you have more info? :)
@chrisariasnow3 жыл бұрын
@@HailSocialite Hey there. an "audio fractal" isn't an official term but rather something I made up in the moment to describe "Home - Resonance". I think it's a fitting description, don't you? So, I guess I would say, this track "Home - Resonance" is an audio fractal. I don't know where we might find more examples of this.
@HailSocialite3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisariasnow Thanks for the reply! I learned the concept of fractals from reading the Jurassic Park novel, and so I was curious about the idea of an "audio fractal." I'm not quite sure if the concept fits, but I think I'd be hard pressed to think of a better way to describe it. In terms of other examples, I thought of the Inception soundtrack. The kick song in the movie is "Non, je ne regrette rien." The soundtrack for when they're in the deeper levels of the dreams is really just that song slowed down. I don't know if it maintains the same beauty or vibe, but the idea of going deeper and deeper into a song is definitely there. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4fOgmN5adZ3rK8 Thanks for the discussion!

holy shit, i had this running in the background and was wondering what ethereal majesty was playing, i didnt know such a simple action of slowing something down could create something too beautiful to possibly be expressed with true and fair justice with only the words we have today. that begs the question though, does 'slower' typically make things prettier? and if so, why? what does that mean or tell us?
@Andriale2 жыл бұрын
college musician and amateur producer here. not that that gives me much credentials. slower sometimes makes things prettier, but not always. often with performed music, especially solos, slowing down the tempo for drama is extremely common and is called rubato. in other music, like orchestral where you have to be more deliberate to have everyone in the ensemble play at the same time, or electronic, where you have free control over how slow anything is and when exactly it plays, slowness is still used. I think it comes down to our brains having time to perceive things. Usually these chord stabs in Resonance are fast enough to where we can only enjoy the individual sounds passing by very quickly. So when it's slowed down, we have much more time to vibe. I think that's what an extension of chillwave, vaporwave, etc do. The chord progressions are often very repetitive and don't resolve, and the whole song can just be the same chord progressions with more layers added or taken away. Even though the tempo may be fast, it feels slow to us because not much is changing compared to other music. That's why some people don't like this genre, I think. Even I am not in the mood for chillwave sometimes because it feels too repetitive, but then I listen to the same song on a drive or when I'm really tired at the end of the day, and it gains new meaning because I'm able to relish in the vibes. I think that's why we can enjoy this song. Slowness isn't always good, change is needed in any music to keep it interesting, but the speed of music is definitely a huge part of it.
