SHE DC maker's market (26 - 28 march) - part of a month long event for celebrating women in the arts:
www.eventbrite.com/e/she-dc-m...
been busy throwing and firing a lot these 2 weeks! if you are interested in the end to end process of how i make ceramic coffee cups at home, do watch this very comprehensive video on how i wedge, weigh, throw, trim, bisque-fire, glaze and glaze-fire my ceramics. on hindsight, my previous job churning reports was a lot less tedious (and better paying) than this crazy and somewhat physically laborious process.. but it is very rewarding.
2:04 - wedging
2:46 - weighing
3:14 - throwing
6:17 - trimming
8:45 - bisque-firing
9:50 - glazing
10:44 - glaze-firing
11:25 - results!

Hello, I recently just started to learn about paint pottry and glazing as I wanted to home-make all my plant pots (in-door plant lover here). My question is that what type of paint do yourecommend me applying to the pottery before glazing and kyln-firing? I've searched Underglazes, Slips, Oxide stains, Glazes and Acrylic paint, not sure which to start with! Hope you can help me. Love your videos!

i have not really calculated exact costs but i believe every firing costs me a few dollars for a kiln this size. you might wanna refer to this for a more accurate calculation: www.soulceramics.com/pages/cost-of-firing-ceramic-kiln

What is the material that you put on the cup to make it shiny and suitable for drinking???!!! And it has to be put in a dedicated oven for that, or can I let it dry in the open air … please answer me
@AudreyCCeramics
@AudreyCCeramics 2 жыл бұрын
it is ceramic glaze. you paint it on before firing it in a kiln. it melts and coats the stoneware, and when it cools, it solidifies. you definitely need a dedicated pottery kiln to produce it.

hi i know i’m late but how does one determine wether a clay piece is food safe? (and water/dishwasher proof) is there a single factor? like if it’s in a kiln it’s always safe? i’m not a serious potter but i really wanna make bowls and mugs but obviously they should be food safe.
@AudreyCCeramics
@AudreyCCeramics 2 жыл бұрын
most mid fire glazes and clays are microwave safe and dishwasher safe unless they state otherwise (eg. palladium and shiny glazes, or overglazes). other than that, you will have to fire the glaze and clay to the cone that they were manufactured for. other than that, there are also tests that you can do to make sure that your wares are really food safe even after following the above. eg. the lemon test: ceramicartsnetwork.org/daily/article/Two-Tests-to-Determine-if-Your-Glaze-is-a-Food-Safe-Ceramic-Glaze

porcelain is a specific kind of clay, where as the term 'ceramic' is a more general term used to describe vessels made by any kind of clay - could be stoneware, terracotta or porcelain

How many hours until it turn like leather?
@AudreyCCeramics
@AudreyCCeramics 2 жыл бұрын
depends on the humidity and how big the vessel is. usually takes a day for cups where i am where humidity is 60%. more important to know how leather hard feels like (easy to trim, but will not go out of shape easily when you handle it)

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Heb 9:27) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)

the "women taking charge of their lives" remark sounds like silly feminism. that earned you a thumbs down as i don't see any relation between your pottery and politics.
@AudreyCCeramics
@AudreyCCeramics 2 жыл бұрын
well if you come from a country that politicises gender equality.. then you can choose to interpret it that way. i don't.
@CT2507
@CT2507 2 жыл бұрын
@@AudreyCCeramics its not related to any country. its the way it is all over the world where feminism has spread and is being picked up by the likes of you. even your wording "gender equality" shows that you have bought into the narrative. the idea of feminism was political from the get go. find out who invented feminism and for what purpose. at least do yourself that favor and learn something useful.
@AudreyCCeramics

@@CT2507 well and you would come to that conclusion that i am a toxic feminist... because..... i want women to take charge of their lives?!?!? i think you must realise that views are not black and white. many times, they fall on a spectrum, and maybe even on a different axis. i think it's poor form to label anyone who pushes for 'women to take charge of their lives' as pushing for the particular brand of feminism that you deem to be toxic. i dont subscribe to tokenism; i subscribe to meritocracy. i dont subscribe to emasculating others (in this case, the other gender) to reach our goals in life; i subscribe to respect for people (and not just across genders, but people of any identity). 'women who take charge of their lives' is a statement i made as a result of my own personal experiences - i have a mum whom i feel would have thrived better if she knew her choices and didnt just fit into the social norm of being a stay home mum. i myself, as a new mum, have a new identity to nurture a person but feel constantly conflicted between my wants as a mum and a career person. i know of friends who are not given access to education just because they are women. if pushing for women to see past their gender identity to fulfil dreams or to get out of their shitty circumstances rock you the wrong way, then i rest my case.
@CT2507
@CT2507 2 жыл бұрын
@@AudreyCCeramics i didn't say you were a toxic feminist, just a silly feminist. those are your own projections. i mean a gullible one who doesn't know that the feminist agenda was set in motion by powerful people, not to help women in any way but to create a divide between men and women. to break relations and homes up. i have known several feminists, and they always choose themselves when the relationship becomes challenging. they forget their lofty ideals of love, togetherness and family and run faster than if chased by the devil. because that's what they have been trained to do. to think of themselves first of all and ditch anything that seems problematic or scary or a threat to their independence and self-preservation. an that's what the feminist agenda does to women. it cant do anything else. it does not teach women to strengthen their relationship. it pits women against men. and the reason why i can say these things about you with a certainty is because you bring up feministic ideas where they don't belong. in a pottery video ffs!! that shows what the heart is full of. the late Aaron Russo who befriended the Rockefellers were told by them why they invented and sponsored women's lib. women's lib and feminism are two sides of the same coin. check out what he said here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opmtdId8j8tjaaM

@@CT2507 the kinda 'feminism' that you are describing IS toxic feminism. it sounds full of hate, and the people that you are describing sound like man-haters. which is what led you to associate me with. not sure how i got labelled as a silly feminist from producing art with a simple message like 'women taking charge of their lives'. can i not encourage and uplift a particular group without being associated with the political agenda of louder, bra-burning 'feminists'? i dont know how a simple message became associated with what you shared (and with that, that brand of feminism that you are describing is not something i do not agree with at all) i did not say 'burn the bras' or 'take over whatever that men do'. i believe in playing to the strengths we are given, i believe in policies that do not oppress. it is obvious you are the one projecting your experiences dealing with man hating feminists.
