Got to say - The Alfarrari sounded better than i thought on the racetrack, yes it doesnt have that high pitched Ferrari V8 sound you are (rightfully) after, but rather a nice growly kinda inline 4 induction noise reminiscent of old Alfas. Definitely something i could live with until the final exhaust setup comes.

Hi Jeff, why don't you just use the Razor PDM from Link to help solve the couple of electrical issues that you are having with the bike PDM. I would assume that it should be a fairly straight forward swap for you with a little rewiring/re pinning of terminals from old PDM, being same brand as your ecu so it can control it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Mrs Jeff.
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 күн бұрын
I am still considering it, the trouble is fitting it into the space, and also it doesn't have enough inputs and outputs to replace it entirely.
@ScGa-o3g2 күн бұрын
@@HomeBuiltByJeff Maybe have the Razor PDM do all the major/heavy current loads and use the motorcycle PDM run the low current loads to cover all the input/outputs you need??

Hey Jeff. Great channel. Good choice in cars. German and Italian. As for the idle problem on the Merc. I would be suspicious of the throttle body. A 93 would have lots of k's and those old bodies either leak air or ware out of tolerance. The ECU gets confused because the throttle position sensor tells the ECU the throttles in the wrong position for idle and the voltage supplied to correct the position is at maximum. The two are out of sync. There are some businesses that can repair the old throttle body back to factory specs. Try googling them. Or try another second hand unit. One thing thats great about the Merc is it's easy to bump power up from 150 to 200 hp. Extractors and exhaust and a little head work will get you there. I bet if you bore it out to 240 specs you'll get over 200 hp! Save on fuel as well. No need to change engines. Cheers.

The AlfaFerrari sounded Great Ripping up the Track! Perhaps Some Vibratechnic engine mounts, could be fitted to reduce noise and stop the engine moving. It's a UK Product and Cater for all cars, even Kit Cars! Shame the Roxster has to go. I'd finish the Project get some Good Track days, have some Fun out of it, then sell for your next Project😉 Love your Work and Happy Christmas to you both🎄🍻
@georgebettiol83384 күн бұрын
Firming up the engine mounts, which effectively reduces engine movement is not the answer. In order to reduce the unwanted engine vibrations that are transfered to the chassis - you need to better isolate the engine from the chassis using engine mounts that are more flexibile than the currently fitted 'very firm' polyurethane type. The aforesaid will allow the engine a greater 'degree of movement' that will better isolate it from the chassis. The trick is to obtain engine mounts that are 'tailored to work' with the flat plane Ferrari engine - which is not a trivial task especially when space is very limited.
@markwalton86444 күн бұрын
@georgebettiol8338 That's what Vibratechnic mounts are designed to do. They keep the engine from moving whilst keep the Vibrations to a Minimum

Think the Roxster needs to go bright green, fitting with the skittles look on the drive, you know it makes sense. No worries which one you work on and share, although the Merc is by far the least interesting! A bit of Harry content would be good, might need some “worth doing three times” t shirts. I do love the Alferrari the most, I’d love an old Alfa of my own, if if don’t win the subscriber giveaway 😉 I might have to buy one 😂

Hey Jeff, don't fix the paint to Harry, keep it as a driver and enjoy it to the max, I have a '77 930 that I was driving it heavily and enjoyed every mile out of it, now after I did a complete restoration I'm keeping it in the garage and always fear to take it out and I completely regret it!

Love your channel and your work. I had similar symptoms with bad idle on my 1990 2.9 Litre Jaguar which had a Bosch engine management system and the Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV). The ISCV is a stepper motor that is controlled by the ECU to set the idle, but someone had tried to fix the idle speed by adjusting the throttle plate stop screw. This results in surging idle once the engine has reach normal operating temperature. Your Merc is a similar vintage (I think?). Have you reset the throttle plate to the specified gap and checked Idle Speed Control Valve is clean and working correctly?
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 күн бұрын
The earlier W124's had that system, mine is later and has no ISCV... :(

yoyo Jeff, thanks for the update. I'ver heard of ppl using OEM rubber engine mounts and using 3M window sealant to fill the 'voids' in the mount to firm-up the mounts flex. Not sure if it works, just an potential FYI. I love the Rockstar. Seems like some untapped potential to me.
