Jeff sounds like "D Chunk" problems in one cylinder, which did happen on M96 engines, particularly with an engine that has suffered over heating problems which more than likely happened on your engine when the radiator ducting was blocked off. Cylinder wall broken through to a water gallery hence coolant in the sump. Piston probably destroyed allowing oil to the cylinder head and into the extractors if the exhaust valve was open. And all the shrapnel would lock the engine solid. That's my guess.
@B3owulf10003 жыл бұрын
My guess for the failure is hydraulic lock caused by AOS failure. Air oil separator membrane failed and allowed the intake to pull oil from the crankcase into the intake manifold. good luck with the build! looking forward to it!
@jaydeedubau3 жыл бұрын
This happened to my 98 Boxster. Upon further investigation, it was a spun piston that impacted the spark plug creating a hole on the top of the piston. It would be cool to see what caused your catastrophic failure.

It had nothing to do with years of abuse Jeff, my near new Boxster (at the time) couldn't handle a commute from Collins Street to Kew via the Yarra Boulevard (in 1999 from memory). Porsche came to the party with an engine rebuild but it took a lawyers letter to make it happen.

That was new oil coming out of the exhaust like that, then the amount of water before any oil from the sump, The way the idiots had blocked the air flow to the rad it was amazing it was still driving to be honest, If that track is as bad as that I would hazzard a guess you will be requiring a dry sump system.

I think a cilinder cracked. The water got in the sump and the oils floats on top of the water. That way the oil could get to the exhaust through opened valves.

Its obviously done a head gasket and by the amount of water in there I'd say its been gone for a while. Water doesn't lubricate as well as oil so that would have really helped seize the engine.

I would guess the breather gave up and allowed oil to be dumped into the inlet manifold and drowned two cylinders and hydraulic locked the engine
@stuartd97413 жыл бұрын
As Jeff said cracked piston. Possibly broken valve head. Oil would pump straight through the inlet port via the valve guide.?
@greggarnham84973 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest maybe you've cracked the head, between the oil gallery and water jacket, in the exhaust port. Compression would have pushed oil and water where they don't belong. Pretty common to damage one cylinder, and have the other 5 grind it to death. You'd say it was a piston, but that's pretty rare on a N/A engine. I assume it seized the crankshaft from trying to lube the big ends and mains with coolant !
