Wood is the best material for home builds,it is a friendly warm natural product,Fisher seems to have cornered the market in top quality Stitka spruce which apparently is in short supply. Vickers Armstrongs used geodetic structure on the Wellington which was designed by Barns Wallis of bouncing bomb fame and yes they would come back from raids and survive with the structure badly damaged,I have never seen a de Havilland machine with a geodetic structure ? A lovely build that should keep you busy for some time and you are very organised.

Hihi, I love it with the Oratex the BetterAircraftFabric -EAA-Oshkosh Booth footage in this video!!! - Covering wooden airplanes in Oratex is as fast as it gets and way easy. Quicker than covering metal planes. I have a Jodel-Falconar F11A in the works, myself. As there is little time, who know when it will fly. Best Regards from Alaska! -See you in Oshkosh !!!

Very informative video, it just needed to be longer. I'm building a wood Zing from Simplex Aero, and I encourage more wood construction videos from the great Homebuilt Help company. People don't realize that wood is easy, and generally the least expensive way to build an airplane. If you do this (building) for fun, you can't beat wood.

Awesome build! Great tip with the circular dowels, I haven't seen that before. I'm scratch building an RW6. Started off in January 2018 by building 22 wing ribs. Most of the wooden pieces are done, just the left wing to go. I'm also using T-88 glue, it's great stuff. Looking forward to more videos!

FYI...Menards is importing Scots Pine in 2x4 and 2x6 construction stock from Ilim Timber from Germany. I have found many clear boards and even the knotted ones have short but long enough areas good for diagonals. It has tight growth rings. Ruptures at over 12,000 psi. Is 34lbs per cu ft. Some is a little resinous but per T-88 this should be sanded and wiped with lacquer thinner. My test glue ups all tore wood fiber...happy hunting!

I’m just about done with my plans build all wood Fisher Horizon II. I’m down by Madison wi and if you want to do a vid I would love to be part of a wood build series. I love building with wood, I can work on it all night, come in the house and the wife does not say “what is that smell”! Fisher offers a great set of planes, I built a fisher 303 ultra light years ago when I was more ultra light size.

@@riedjacobsen8620 it has not flown yet, this fall is the plan. I have a Corvair engine that is built and is mounted on a mock-up mount to get the placement just right. the wings are ready to cover once I get the wing tanks installed. Umm, Nooo..!!! Normal wood glue won't work...A plane in the air is constantly subjected to 5 to 6 times it's weight in the air... Normal wood glue can't hold up to that...Try it..Glue a 2x4 together with some TiteBond...Let it dry..Then stand on it...Watch it break under your weight...Just think if you used it in your homebuilt plane at 500-1000 ft in the air.... Cheers...!!!
@roberthibberd5362 Жыл бұрын
There are some really "strong " wood glues out there. Many might not have enough give, bend but not break, to be suitable for aircraft use. Others may NOT stand up to years, decades of swings in humidity and temperature. Better to go with an aircraft epoxy, or a suitable resorcinal. If you're going to be puttering around around at several thousand feet!

@ioanekirarahu9515 жыл бұрын
You just follow the full size representation of the pieces on the plans. All Fisher plans are similar in this respect. Not sure what the actual ratio is.
@steveukman5 жыл бұрын
Good catch. It should be 8.2 degrees (the Arcsine of 1/7). I did not realize that Jon was going to make it into a tip when he visited brandishing a camera ;). I will have to think "video rampcheck" next time. Fisher provide really nice full size plans which make is more of an exercise in "replicate the drawn lines in the wood pieces" to get the fit right, so it was a case of fit rather than measure.

Anybody heard of the Spacek SD-1 Minisport wood kit? The main spars of the deriggable wings are carbon composite, but the rest is egg crate, foam and veneer. VERY popular in Europe. Lots of KZbin vids by Euro owners. Seems to an economical little gadabout. Here's a link to a YT tour of their old factory ==> kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3qUk4GZlt2FqNk
