I performed this on my 2004 Envoy. Use caution, the water pump bolts are torqued to 89 inch pounds. After more research, the bolts are reportedly to be tty, torque to yield, bolts. This means when bolts are torqued, they stretch. This is common on where items bolt into aluminum castings as this timing cover. The O.E. water pump gasket is a crushed metal gasket. The O.E. pump comes with a new metal crush gasket as well.
@billwilson36653 жыл бұрын
That would mean new bolts should be used because they only stretch once.

Good job - lots of details - decent camera angles - you obviously put some time into this. One thing I would suggest is cut a piece of carboard - about 18.5 X 11 inches - and insert it against the inside of the radiator - it will protect it as you are trying to remove the clutch fan (and also when you are re-assembling. Just make sure you remove it afterwards. Most folks could do with just a few tools - the large fan nut I did not have a wrench for - but a large adjustable did the trick. Also my 2008 does not have an electrical connection to the fan. I deviated a bit - I cut out a section as others have done to so that the radiator inlet port cleared the shroud with a bit less fuss.

Good video! A few tips…Take the lower rad hose off first to drain the system and use a torque wrench to install the water pump. Torque wp at 4Nm first, then 10Nm on a second criss cross pattern. Torque pulley bolts to 25Nm and clutch bolts to 25Nm. Since you have the system drained flush the rad out good with the hose and put some fresh pre-mix dexcool in there for maximum cooling and wp life.

I know this is old, but if anyone is interested the torque spec on the waterpump bolts is pretty low, only 10 Nm, or 89 In Lbs. I've found that the cheap, 1/4 inch drive, pneumatic, air ratchets from Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc... seem to land around this torque at max tight. I think more or less air pressure can change the max tight and I'm sure the ratchets vary to some degree; so it's a good idea to check your setup before letting it rip. Don't over / under torque your stuff because of some clown (me) on YT. That being said, every one of those ratchets I've had (I've had 4 or 5 over the last decade) torque to 7-8 Ft Lbs at max tight; which is pretty close to the 10 Nm / 89 In Lbs. Your results may vary.

What all these water pump/ fan clutch removal videos fail to show is what exactly is happening when loosening the nut on the fan. Everyone says "wedge" a screwdriver against the pulley bolts except doing so locks the fan nut and prevents it from turning which is why a fan clutch wrench is needed.
