I would also go as far as investing in actual experts to inspect the home if the inspector has no credentials in the following areas: Electric, plumbing and heating/cooling, masonry, roofing and construction. This is especially true if the home was renovated. My hubby's tv wouldn't work in our finished basement. I noticed the fuse switch was off so I flipped it on. Still no power to the tv. I called an electrician who traced the line to another outlet behind the bar that had soot and was slightly melted. It had shorted out. The electrician found that the electric wasn't done correctly. Probably done by a handyman or contractor...not an electrician.

As an old commercial Carpenter,I like the speed square being used as a spacer. I did side jobs on weekends so I have installed some decks. We always used 12p nails as spacers, which worked, but they got lost and had to be picked up. Commercial Workers [high rise, industrial sites, etc] usually self censor each others' work by riding the ones who made "mistakes". The problem with residential workers is that a house is built "piecemeal" with crews doing just what they are paid to do,thus the door problem. The carpenter who installed it got paid per door and wasn't supplied caulking, etc to do it correctly. Usually, the general Contractor has himself and a Flunky,so has little control of the job.

The winding stairway to the basement doesn't meet code in the USA due to narrow tread width on the inside of the turn. 6" minimum at the narrowest and 10" minimum at a point measured out 12" from the inside of the turn. That's considered the walk line. Plus a whole bunch of other specs. I've been building for 50 years. It's a wonderment what you find on remodel jobs. It doesn't matter if they are new or real old. It's usually a shit show. The gas meter most likely was a 5"-7" pressure rating. In the USA we also have been using meters with a 2 LB PSI rating so you don't need the bigger pipe sizes. Just need a regulator at the appliance to reduce to the 5"-7" rating before the furnace. The paver patio we use fine granite for grading instead of the sand. Ant's move the sand but don't bother the granite fines. Then sweep with a really fine granite for the cracks.
