I haven't watched the video yet but this is so weird. Today I was thinking to myself how is another way to get nettles into my diet? So I looked through my cook books and came across various hummus recipes and thought ah ha, yes I'll make nettle hummus, I'll Google it later to see if it's a thing. Anyway, I went to work and forgot all about it and when I got home and put on KZbin this video was waiting for me! I look forward to watching it😀

Hiii guys! Just discovered your channel, amazing homestead content. I love nettles, its amazing what you can do with them at different times of the year. I love to make soups and gather the seeds to add to other soups, sandwiches and salads. Thanks for the video 😃

I am surrounded by sting nettle but curious as to whether you know if they are high in oxalates. I can not seem to find that information on the internet. Oxalates cause kidney stones in people who eat too many foods that are high in them and as a vegan, many of the foods I used to eat, like spinach are on the Do Not East list. Passing one kidney stone is one too many. Thank you for your informative videos and God Bless.

I’ve passed 4 and all oxalate stones but was told by the surgeon to have e cream with the oxalate rich food like rhubarb and it counteracts the oxalate 😊

Yes as far as I know oxalate degrade fast with heat aswell. I put kale through food dehydrator.. so far no kidney stones but consuming parsley boiled will help pass kidney stones I believe. Let me know if it works because a dear friend told me this that her dad would do it when with kidney stones and they would apparently dissolve right down

Nyom...I don't add tahini to hummous either...I like to add just a pinch of powdered turmeric and coriander though... so good. I've often added herbs but never nettles... gonna give that a go this week! I'm a fellow nettle affectionado and absolutely love using them in so many things...but the tea is my main addiction!

Can the soup still be made using the leaves later on in the season when the seeds are on the nettle or has the leaf lost most of the nutritional value at that stage and not really worth using at that stage?

I find it all at all these good herbs for us are usually considered weeds that are useless.

@kathyhirsch379 like all things they are seasonal unless you use a food dehydrator, powder down and store, then sprinkle as needed..be sure to dehydrate on lower heat for longer 😀
