It's hard to believe that the homeless crisis is worse now than ever before. The Irish government has failed the most vulnerable people in society.
@calvancandy8384 Жыл бұрын
Not with this Government - they look after their own and don’t give 2 fucks about the working class or the hurt in society. The sooner Sinn Féin gets in the better. I’d have more hope with them anyway.

That's so nice of you! Its good to know there's people out there with your kind of atitude to go out of your confort zone and see whats like live in the streets. People talks a lot but no one really knows how difficult it is... I'm brazilian and lived in Dublin for 9 months, was the best experience a nineteen yo could have but the struggles I went through were many... couldnt imagine how rough it can be for a homeless person to live in this crazy world nowadays...
@calvancandy83849 жыл бұрын
wow that sounds interesting thanks for your comment - I couldn't imagine how hard it was either, after just one day I was mentally and physically drained and it just gets worse. These people do it for years I really don't know how...

Ya know something, this is just a great video coz ya never really see vidz made in Dublin or anywhere round Ireland for that matter. It's all American vidz etc & that's ok too but it's nice to see one from Ireland. I always try & give something when I see someone on da bridge or in a doorway with a paper cup. I mean 2015 & this is just getting worse. Not to be pointing fingers but that Spenda Kenny just bugs me to say da least along with all his riff raff. POLITRICKS!!! Anyways, aside from all that I just wanna say fair play to you Calvan for doing this & I hope it starts a trend & more & more people start making videos & start digging into there pockets next time they pass a homeless person! I really hope 2015 will be the year where Ireland sets a trend & fix this major problem, not just for Ireland but for the rest of the world...well it has to start somewhere. Peace y'all! p.s. 1 more thing, this video has only got 2,364 views, 20 likes & 2 dislikes??? Oh but look at the funny cat video that gets 2,000,000 views. Time to take stock People!!!

No words can explain how these people feel, all of them there through circumstance some worse than others, through drugs or just plain old hardship. Streets are for walking on not sleeping on. I know the person you where talking about I see him regularly and give him a few euros for a cup of tea but the truth is its spent on his next hit of heroin. David, fair play I hope this short film enlightens a few people to think twice the next time they see someone sitting in a door way or on a bridge that they stop and not give money but just too think that it could be them, people should show little more empathy than been so judgemental. Respect.

Great video Calvin. I've been to Dublin a couple of times now and having worked in the government and non-govt housing services, I can see a lot of similarities here. Clearly there are lot of other factors there that are not part of our culture here in Australia that add to the homelessness issues. Was the music playing at the start yours?
@calvancandy83849 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that - very nice of you to say. The music at the start is a song called 'Wild Wood' by Paul Weller an outstanding songwriter (if you've never heard of him)

When things go wrong in people's lives, that is the time for the churches to come, in and play there part, to prevent homelessness by opening up the church halls for people to sleep in there is no point quoting from the Bible every Sunday and doing nothing for the people that need the church's help, the churches must play their part and take responsibility for the homeless people, it's called helping The poor....????

Homelessness could happen to anyone...I've been there 3 or 4 times before,and,can be lonely and depressing.Not everybody who is homeless,is so because of criminality or deviancy,but some are.Depending on whether one is homeless indoors,at a hostel or purely surviving on the streets can make a big difference to some homeless-people.The relative comfort of a hostel has some downsides(feeling like you are constantly being monitored by Staff,being bullied by other residents at the hostel or restrictions placed on your coming and going at certain times or having what little you do have being stolen)Homelessness outdoors can be ,potentially,a very volatile-situation,but,the added-benefit,is that you can move around...Also,you do not have to follow the typical pattern of homelessness(ie.Sleeping in doorways,exposed to all sorts of people,some of which could be bad for you).You are in Survival-mode 24/7,so,you get to know pretty quick what is "good" for you and what isn't,what is safe and what isn't you should know already by gut-instinct(it should not be ignored in the homeless-scenario either indoors or out on the street....gut-instinct can keep you alive!)Lastly,but by no means least,you have to be careful of who you mingle with and choose your "friends" carefully,because,oftentimes,they could turn out to be no Friend at all.

There are many reasons for homelessness, most of them are self inflicted. even this guy I broke up with my girl, have you no family? drunks & drug addicts. your average person holds down a job lives a normal life. sorry folks time to face reality.
@calvancandy83845 жыл бұрын
Michael Larkin I’m “this guy” Michael. I’m not homeless I did a short documentary on it. You have no clue about homelessness given what you just said. I’m not getting into a boring argument about it either. Good luck!
@TheTheirishlad5 жыл бұрын
@@calvancandy8384 Because you have no argument, the facts are very clear regarding certain people who are homeless,I spent many years working with real homeless people who for genuine reasons had no homes.
@calvancandy83845 жыл бұрын
Michael Larkin There’s close to 11,000 people homeless in Ireland where I live - 4,000 children. Some people are homeless because they’re on drugs that’s true. Not “most” as you put it. Even most of the ones who are on drugs are continuing to take them not because they want to but because they are broken inside and see no way back. That’s the truth of it. It’s too big a subject to be throwing back and forth on KZbin anyway so I’m out!
@TheTheirishlad5 жыл бұрын
@@calvancandy8384 I think you misunderstand what the real situation is, I know the figure of the homeless, and I can assure you that there are far more drug addict and drunks in hostels and doorway than the people you are quoting who are in emergency hotels with their children. part of addressing this horrible problem has to begin with them, and then move into the area of addiction and see what can be done. in my time on the ground with the homeless (a lot more than one night) our conversations would be around the reasons why they were not living in their family homes, 99.9% of them answered the reason was their parents would not put up with their addictions any more, so if drugs or drink is more important than a home than they need more help then we think.
@nickbrennan33894 жыл бұрын
Some people have no family....most people on the streets are not teenagers...I'm 40 and have no family. I'm not homeless but if I was I'd have no back up support or help...shit happens to people
@jlf18505 жыл бұрын
I appreciate what you are trying to do, I think? But you look too well dressed pal, a lot of people who walked by probably thought that too and assumed you were just chancing your arm. Also, that 'bit of time' you tried to kill in the guitar shop? How many people who are homeless, cold and not able to keep themselves (for whatever reason), as well presented as you, would be allowed the courtesy of going into the average guitar shop and strum away the cold moments? What was with all the crazy video effects? You should have given an epilepsy warning at the start of the vid. There was no need for that mate. Sorry, genuinely, if you think I am being overly critical of your video. However, the crisis that homeless people face today; in Dublin, Ireland and the rest of the world needs no special effects. That said, fair play to you mate. The more recognition the better for the plight of our homeless people....

Great video and well documented on homeless people in Dublin, it can happen to anyone, it's awful ya lose all self respect and dignity been on the streets, a lot people end up homeless because of alcohol and drug addiction problems, mental health problems and kicked out family home because of crime so they end up on the streets, the government should help them and provide more accommodation and shelters and services
