You know rudy, I have spent about 15k in various sealed products, I expect some of those to completely flop and that's fine, even if everything flops I know I can always count on inflation over the next 4 to 6 years to allow me to still net profit on all my products. Which is more than what I can say for just leaving my money in a bank account for the same amount of time.

that's the problem with sealed product. certain cards could be worth more than the pack itself. but then you are at a crossroad. do i open it and take a potential 90% loss on pulling this one specific card; or do i sell the sealed product; when the market is more for single purchases, etc? id stick with actual cards; than sealed product.

Diamond hands for the win, been back and buying every set since re-opening my little Lgs in August 2019, nearly the 3 year anniversary and still building up inventory to begin selling at the 3-5year+ juncture. Like you say who knows, it rhymes but is never the same, is it a 2 year downturn or a 10+ year depression, who knows. Don't borrow and look after those around you, as long as we can eat going forward and have a roof over our heads then maslow was right that anything over that will be gravy in the long run as long as we are not in the 2Bn who will be close to starvation around the globe. There but for chance go all of us, have a great time getting out and re-assessing, have recently diversified into a little silver, who knows how it will all pan out, the world is holding it's breath and hoping the big man does not screw us over any more!

See, the dip in 2020 was so short I didn't have enough time to properly buy the dip. I sold out $4000 of my position in Feb 2020 but only had the chance to buy $3500 in the dip before it had rebounded to new highs. This time I am hoping for at least nine months of downturn/sideways market movement so I can keep buying at 2020 prices that I missed the first time around.

I’m hedging my bets with Fab. I think it’s truly special and the next MTG in the making. I know many card games have had that label slapped on them and horribly failed. But, I truly believe Fab will be the next MTG. I don’t think it’ll kill MTG or even get close, but it’ll be close to being just as big. I’m buying Alpha boxes whenever I can. I'm not spending money I don't have. I'm paying cash, not credit cards. I have a 6+ month emergency fund with access to an additional 12 months if I need it. I'm secure, I'm not being a hero. But like Rudy said... BUY SOMETHING. 401k / IRA is steady eddy. And I'm bellying up to the bar for the new stuff coming out.

I totally agree with the world ending analysis. I hear people talk like that from time to time, what if some big event comes and everybody loses everything. Sure I'll lose my investments too, but stacks of cash in a reality where the stock market goes to zero or some such is also utterly worthless. Sure, if you spent a ton of money betting on a world ending scenario you might be ok, for awhile. Great. Meanwhile the most likely scenario is things will turn as some point and investments made in bad times will pay off in a big way. What else can you do? Assume the worst? Ok, well, why not just die now then? Why wait for that? The rest of us are going to go on with our lives and make money doing it.

Buying a bunch of older MTG for opening, I'm constantly surprised at how cheap some of this stuff is relative to the market supply. Either those product hoarders aren't willing to sell at these 'low' prices, or they don't actually exist...

Why hold sealed when you can hold the old foil singles. You get the best card out of every pack, don’t have to pay to risk opening, you buy exactly what you want, stack exactly what you want, and can literally own an entire XX% of the opened market with a little money and staying the course.

IMO its just a supply and demand thing. there will always be less supply over time with sealed because people keep opening. which naturally drives the price higher, if demand stays the same. (basic economics). plus people like the nostolgia (including me) of opening a pack. the gamblers effect. also there has always been a premium for stuff sealed in all aspects of collectibles. its always worth more.

Yeah, it’s not as easy as buy any card or buy a box and sit on them like clowns. When buy boxes when for the price of a box I can get 300 foil copies of a card that will be $20-50 in 2 years

Im buying the cards im missing in my sets while people are selling low! I collect rare wotc psa 9 & 10 pokemon cards & they have not taken a huge hit like some others have. I also bought most of my collection in 2017-2019. I dont think prices will ever come down to those price levels again. I did not buy much from 2020-2022 i saw prices skyrocket on everything & knew it was unhealthy growth so i did not buy anything & slowly sold stuff i did not really want in my collection anymore. Now that everyones panic selling i can start to buy again. :)

Well, Rudy, things are pretty crazy! There was more red in my portfolio than a Chinese government parade! Too much pain! I couldn't take it anymore. I had to make it stop. That's why a few days ago I liquidated all my positions and put all I have into one of those new-fangled algorithmic stablecoins, Terra Luna something, in order to guarantee the purchasing power of my decimated remaining funds. After a brief vacation from the markets I'll be coming back to plot a new course ahead in a couple of days.👍

@@iMixMaSteR1 tell that to the literal millions of people all over the world that play it. Master Duel released in January and immediately became the most streamed and most watched game on Twitch. Not just the most watched card game. Most watched game in general. (Granted, it didn't hold that title for long, but it still outperforms MTG arena and hearthstone combined.) Also, Yu-Gi-Oh outsells MTG by a pretty wide margin. Go to any store of any kind that sells trading cards, and you'll find plenty of magic product, but they can't keep Yu-Gi-Oh on the shelves. What rudy is saying about sealed product not selling is true, but only for Magic and Pokemon. (And I guess Vanguard and all that other shit no one cares about.) Yu-Gi-Oh is still flying off the shelves like it always has. And I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but I've heard that YCS Charlotte was the largest post-covid TCG event to date. How long that will stand, who knows, but as of right now, Yu-Gi-Oh events are outselling Magic events.

I also can’t count how many people I’ve had beg me to get them YuGiOh product. It’s only dead because you’re not actively in the scene. To people that don’t really like or know much about MTG, it’s dead to them also.
