I became homeless in America when Ochukah tried to overthrow Moi from power because my tuition money could not be wired. Looking back more than 40 years later, that was the best thing that has ever happened to me. I learned not to be depending on my parents and sought a job in the coal mines of West Virginia. I will be retiring from a federal job in 1.6 years and Thanks God I was Once Homeless. It made me strong.

As a Ugandan living in Maryland I have made one simple observation amongst some Kenyan comrades here in MD..Alcohol has played a key role in their downfall. Many are battling DUI cases which is the worst for any American whether Immigrant or American born.. a DUI distorts your life and Iam surprised to see it is the same problem haunting fellow East African Kenyans in Boston. Dear brothers and sisters stay away from alcohol if you know you are going to operate any vehicle because a DUI in America is like a death sentence.Praying for my dear brothers and sisters going through these trying moments to carry through and flourish again.

I really feel sad for those who cannot trust anyone back home to handle business without stealing from them. My sister built an entire apartment block for me and didn't take a penny. She now sends me rental income monthly. I remember when I got stuck with my project, she used her own money to finish it up. I've tried giving her money, paying for vacations and even buying her things but she won't agree to take anything from me. In fact, she's the one who sends me stuff from Kenya. People don't believe me when I say that, they even think she's stealing from me, but everything is accounted for by the agency. I truly thank God for her and all she's done for me over the years

If you are smart enough, you should be able to detect and avoid pitfalls that will set you back. Then when you adapt accordingly then its just a matter of time and you will overcome. Trust me, these problems are everywhere but, as much as they say “the American dream is just a dream,” there are so many opportunities and possibilities in America. There are many factors that contribute to one ending up on the streets. Something that can happen anywhere. But, like Chams says, there are more success stories than the failures so come with an open mind and be willing to do any jobs. The beauty of being in America is, “the bank manager lines up on his day off without a favor from his coworkers.” What am I trying to say, unless you’re a big celebrity or the president of the US, wote ni kawaida watu. When you come to America, be prepared to be/do anything and make sure you don’t leave people back home feeling like you’re way better than them. In other words, be low key na pride uwache JKIA.

For those with DUI, and its's your only misdemeanor case you have on file, you can go back to the court and request for an expungement. If the judge asks you why you need it, tell them you have been applying for jobs and the DUI comes up and they can't hire you. If they ask which field you have applied, tell them healthcare, since this field is the most scrutinized and they need sober. When requesting for an expungement note that you have overcome your drinking for if you are arrested again you done.

How do you expect them to get back to me when they can not afford a meal? If you have the means to buy them airtickets and give them a place to live in Kenya, please do it. Some things are easier said than done. Have you ever seen someone who has an addiction?

Even if they suffer in America it’s 100x way better than being in Kenya in America the systems work na kuteleza sio kuanguka.there’s alway a second chance.once umeonja the freedom in America you can’t go back to Kenya liwe liwalo.

Some people in USA have 100 acres of land, and others run health care businesses. Its between you and your God. Alcoholism and drugs will only kill you or render one homeless person. Work hard and reap the rewards. Again, it depends on ones background

It's deliberate to blur the faces of the homeless and those who don't consent for their videos to be used.
