As a former homeless man I can actually speak to this. If it wasn’t for the booze and substances I took. I honestly would have jumped off a bridge. Ironically it was those things that kept me going long enough to be taken in by my cousin and then getting clean. And I never did drugs nor drink before I became homeless. I like many others suffered the consequences of 2008.

The only way to make the far-right care is to force them into a situation where they rely on empathy from other people. The reality is most of these cunts have never needed assistance, and believe that they never needed assistance because they are somehow superior. Want to fix homelessness? Take the homes away from the far-right. They'll fix it in a moment.

A town in Utah gave apartments to the homeless and it SAVED the town a lot of money because homeless people end up in the emergency room often from being exposed to the outside elements. When you have shelter, you don't get sick as often and don't have to go to the doctor as often. We'd help people and save tax dollars at the same time if the whole country did this.
@kooken58

This works well for the homeless people who don't have any mental or drug issues going on. Unfortunately in some places that have a large visible homeless problem, a large number of the ones out on the street are such people. You will end up with trashed buildings, many of these people need more than just housing....they need rehab / mental help.
@brendag5263
@brendag5263 Жыл бұрын
@@kooken58 ...You did not watch the video? Most homeless are not addicts or people with mental health issues. Being homeless is what causes most of them to turn into addicts AND also increased risk for mental illness. In addition, those who already had mental health and or addiction would do better if housed. Only thing that makes an addiction or mental illness worse is to live on the streets. So it STILL will save us money. The study said that most people who were given money stopped drinking, stopped using drugs and focused on using it for food, rent, etc.
@kooken58

@brendag5263 I will admit this is all observation on my part. I live in Portland and the vast majority of people you see on the street are clear addicts. This high number likely has to due with our drug laws. Many in recent years have flocked here. I don't doubt it is different in other places...but here in Portland we need something far more than just housing for people.

Walsh dusted this guy months ago but now he's back. Unfortunately, I can't post my own comments because YT has an algorithm whereby I can see my own posts but ONLY ON MY OWN ACCOUNT, meaning I have effectively been banned. So I cannot direct my comments to the creator of this video. Perhaps you'd be so kind (a hot one to ask of a lefty!) as to pass this comment along: 1) Christians (and Jews) are ANTI-authoritarian if by "authoritarian" you refer to earthly - i.e. "kingly" - powers. They believe in a power so mighty and good that it is to be revered above any earthly power, any king, emperor, anything. So right off the bat, you use a word without being clear about what you mean by it and cast shade upon yourself because it makes anyone who wants to take you seriously wonder whether you really know what you are talking about. 2) You think Jesus "wasn't very fond of the rich"??? What do you think he was? Kyle? A communist? Bernie Sanders? Some dime-a-dozen, rinky-dink social reformer? No, Kyle. According to Christianity, Jesus was and is the Son of God and God Incarnate. 3) This leads me to some questions I'd like for you to consider: a) Do you believe Jesus is God Incarnate, or just a "good guy". b) If you think the latter, do you argue that Christians are being hypocritical for not conforming to the views a "good guy" would hold, even though, to them, Christ is not a "good guy" but God Incarnate? c) If so, what is your defense of said argument? 4) Matt Walsh is correct that "homeless people don't need homes" , regardless of whether he said that in so many words or whether you were twisting his words for some nefarious purpose (or, to be generous to you, out of stupidity). The reason he said that is this: People are responsible for their own well-being. What Walsh is talking about is not the random person who slipped through the cracks - there have always been people like that, and thanks to the Democrat Party, which will never be ousted from power as long as Dominion and Smartmatic are legal, there will be more and more of them - but rather the epidemic explosion of homelessness due to drug use and personal irresponsibility (also thanks to the Democrat Party!) 5) Do you REALLY (and I'm gonna ask you to ask yourself, in your heart of hearts here - have a moment of truth within yourself) believe that giving a homeless man shelter - for a night, a week, a month, a year - is going to solve the problem of WHY HE IS HOMELESS? Or do you think "homelessness" is a condition one is born into, like being born with a certain skin color or gender (even though gender isn't real)? So why is a person helpless to choose whether he is homeless or not but can choose what gender to be? All y'all leftists gotta get your stories together. Anyway, I think I got like a minute thirty-four in and that's my commentary so far. Please, Mr Che-e, send this along to Kyle.

Why don't these homeless people just get jobs that barely pay enough to cover rent? Why don't these homeless people, with ratty clothes, no shower, and bad dental hygiene, go apply for jobs where they will be competing with other applicants, who have cleaner clothes, more money, a bed they can sleep in prior to the interview, and a reliable means of transport? Why don't these homeless people who don't own computers or phones (and who don't have resumes, ID, or a social security number), just go on the internet and start applying for jobs? . . . I'm actually shocked, when I hear this "just get a job" argument from people who live comfortably. They are so divorced from reality, it hurts my brain to think about it.

Walsh talks about "homelessness" as though when the person was born, the doctor looked at the mother and said, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but your baby is homeless." I see this a lot in my line of work. People think "homeless" is a type of person, not a person who needs a home.

I actually saw someone shoot puddle water in a heroin addiction documentary. But yeah, that guy doesn't need any help at all. It's not just being outside, it's the fact that being outside in this society subjects you to someone like Matt Walsh killing you in the middle of the night possibly, or the police stealing your shopping cart or breaking down your tent etc., other people possibly attacking you or stealing from you. That must stress can break you down and not give you a chance to come back up for air before it has you warped, in that case lowering extreme stress can become a way to save your self from completely cracking up I think. Then a whole sector of society will say look how warped that person is without thinking about or caring about how it happened. So the solution obviously is housing so you can then have a political place in society not subject to raw uncut sociopathic/psychopathic levels of disdain and pathologization that are in society, trickled down from the top largely, and then you can get mail and have a place to leave your stuff rather then having to take it everywhere and use so much energy to constantly guard and watch over it.

What he's arguing, is that homeless people tend to deal with addiction, schizophrenia, and other such problems, which won't be cured just by putting a roof over their head. Which I suppose is accurate, but there is a solution to this: if a homeless person suffers from any sort of condition (PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar, or addiction to any substance) treat them for said condition, get them cured/clean, then house them. Which I doubt Walsh would be in favour of. He'd probably say something like "it'd be easier to just kill the homeless" or something insane like that.

I feel for you! I was a thread away from being homeless when I was in college because of a crooked landlord! Fortunately, there was something called Judicare to help me with going to court to get my rent money back. Of course, I was given a newbie lawyer who didn't know what to do, but it gave me enough support that I went out and did the detective work to provide evidence. If it wasn't for that program, I would have been out on the streets. Even so-called friends, only let me stay one night while I went to court. Fortunately, it was almost like a TV show, the one piece of evidence that I desperately needed was not there, but the day before the judge, I tried at the college housing department for the third time to get the incriminating evidence. Well, it worked. there was a different person and she felt so sorry for me and tried so hard but couldn't find it. Just as I turned, downtrodden, to leave the office, this girl said, "Wait! This is a long shot but there is one other place to look." No kidding, she looked into the bottom drawer of a messy file cabinet and there were dozens of scattered index cards. Lo and behold, the last card she looked at was the exact information I needed! So, long story short, don't give up on getting help! It's as if there are some angels out there. P.S. A little icing on the cake, the judge admonished this landlord for taking advantage of students. I now have there degrees! I understand like you that a lot of people are probably on the street because they don't have money to fight those who take advantage of them. I'm 65 now and still thank the heavens of what would have happened to me without Judicare in WI.

The majority of homeless do have substance abuse issues. I'm not sure where Kyle got his information from. Many homeless people are NOT actually homeless, they want to be close to their dealers so they go to these communities to live. There's been many studies on this. There literally are jobs everywhere right now, and finding a room to rent is not that difficult.

ADHD is only a mental health problem because the way we structure our society is fundamentally opposed to how the ADHD mind (and other neurodivegence brains) operate. I have [severe] ADHD. It isn't a mental illness. Capitalism and illegitimate authority is a mental illness. When you put me in the right environment, I fucking flourish. But the idea that people like me who are stimulated by new experiences need to experience the exact same thing every day otherwise we are mentally ill is absurd. I was called a "behaviour problem" by the education system from grade 2 to 12. The only behaviour problem I had was an inability to sit still and listen and not ask questiosn for eight hours a day, while engaging in pointless fucking exercises to create apathy and subordination. Thank fuck for my ADHD, honestly. It's given me a very clear picture of the world and I work every day to help other people realize that they are trapped in psychological prisons. I hated having ADHD growing up because I felt different. Now I realize the only thing different about me was my inability to do what I was told without question.

Housing policy is complicated because it's so decentralized and there are so many entrenched interests with their foot on the scale making zoning laws and environmental review etc a tool of obstruction to new housing. IMO everything about housing policy is ass backwards. For decades we have subsidized home ownership with a regressive tax that incentivizes bigger homes over more housing being built. The mortgage interest rate deduction only benefits the well-off, the real estate industry, and the banking industry (more expensive houses bigger loans). It doesn't help the consumer (buyers and renters) in any way and has been effectively just a relocation program for white flight to the suburbs that are now being subsidized by the very urban centers they fled because their tax base isn't big enough to support itself. The tax policy should be focused on subsidizing new construction, rentals, and ROUTINE repairs. The voucher system many areas employ now is just a recipe to create slum lords who let their units dilapidate and kick struggling renters out on the street so they can make big improvements (this too is subsidized). It really is an issue that can only be addressed at the federal level and I doubt it will ever happen because some people listen to Matt Walsh's bigotry and think he knows anything about policy.

With the current explosion in rent and the high housing prices recently, there are literal tent communities in some Canadian cities. That's because all of them spent their money on drugs instead of rent all at once off, not because literally 1000 people also apply to rent the same apartment you're applying to, every time, and so it's basically a lottery to get a place to live now.

Or, I guess, a street thug. The problem is, Matt Walsh would probably claw his way out of the tank you tried to put him in. Did you ever read The Count of Monte Cristo? Everyone who has a full time job should at least be able to afford a one bedroom and in my city the average one bedroom is 2000/month which is utterly ridiculous! From what I saw, the homeless without housing, sleep on the street and after a while, the city comes and cleans up the streets. What gets thrown out? The ID & SS CARD. Why? Speaking as someone who has been homeless, homelessness is a choice. It's a difficult choice to dig out of but most don't really have an interest in trying. You could give them a home and they will live in it, even feel entitled to it but will not do any of the things it takes to maintain it. There are exceptions of course but they are few and far between. I've been there. I have close friends that are still there. It is what it is. Here are two things I've come to realize as truths about human nature. Free things have no value and if you let people take advantage of you, they will.

He’s right, once you have a home then you gotta start buying things and filling it with stuff and these people are poor they can’t afford stuff. It’s just better for them to be homeless that way they don’t need to buy anything.

Yes addiction can be a major source of homelessness it's not the only source. Mental illnesses can be a source too because if you're addicted you cannot function or work if you have serious persistent mental Illnesses you can't either but not giving them homes will certainly make theses problems significantly worse. Matt is right you can't just throw money at it without addressing these issues but conservatives don't want to fund mental health or addiction services either so it's a scape goat to not solve either problem
@Acanthophis

Building homes and rehab centers is the very definition of throwing money at it. And it works. Many countries have figured this out already. Matt isn't right at all. Homelessness isn't a naturally-occuring phenomenon. Say what you will about countries like Cuba, but they threw money at the problem and they don't have a homeless population. Everybody has access to a bed. There are people who refuse to sleep in those beds because of mental health problems, but that number is incredibly low, and at the end of the day that person who isn't in a home still has a place to sleep if they change their mind. Matt isn't right in any sense of the word. You're literally saying he is right that you can't just throw money at it, and then you're saying the solution is to literally throw money at it (via funding services). Don't fall for these clowns and their manipulation of language.

This problem does require financial investment, but money has to go to the right places. There is a difference between money spent wisely, and throwing money at any given issue.

@@Acanthophis what I meant is if you do not treat addiction or mental illnesses and only give housing without treatment then people will lose housing going given. And I think Kyle is wrong when he said the homeless problem is a tautology. Matt's point is homeless are not homeless due to a lack of affordable housing but caused by peoples lack of ability to work. Now you can argue against that point TOO OR you can advocate for funding mental health services and treatment of addiction but Kyle has a really bad habit of using overly rhetorical language straw manning people and dismissal of points made. I mean it's also silly to say homelessness causes drug addiction because that implies people don't become addicted to drugs until after they lose housing which can happen but more often people Don't just wake up one day addicted to a substance. There is a history of abuse that then becomes an addiction not to mention alcohol costs money. Mental illnesses especially chronic persistent mental illnesses can be exacerbated by homelessness but it's wrong to say it causes them especially schizophrenia. These disorders do require treatment and if we "throw money" at that it will make it easier to seek employment though some people actually cannot work. And Matt does need to recognize that as well but that's how you debate these people not strawmaning them

@@robertbaur837 But NOBODY is suggesting this, and that's why Matt is using it as the discussion, because it's the only way he can actually have a voice. You're just doing his dirty work, knowingly or not. You are perpetuating the idea that we are just going to throw homes at the homeless but nobody has actually presented this as an idea. Matt created this idea out of this air so he could argue against it. And here you are, doing the exact same thing. I don't think you're a far-right Fox News nutjob. But I do believe you are unwittingly doing their dirty work for them by perpetuating this line of thought.

Walsh is correct. Where does it say to give the homeless someone else's personal things? Jesus said the poor you will have always. Being poor and homeless are not the same thing. I meet people who are homeless. Some by choice and some by the choice of others. It is not a sin to be homeless. Neither is it a sin to be poor. Walsh is correct when he says, giving a homeless person a hotel room at the Ritz will solve their problem. It does not. To attach Walsh for his views on the facts is just a trashy response to real world problems. Listening to your response clearly shows you have no answer, just attacking statements. You have been canceled.

@@slayedtorest because they are government skewed, and not a lot of people voluntarily check a box that says they are addicTed to drugs. And in LA there is SO MUCH funded rehab centers and halfway houses and transitional housing to help people off the streets. Trust me I have tried getting some of my friends in them, and family. They rather be on the streets and do drugs…

Can you imagine living in such an insulated life that you have no clue how expensive it is to live in this country right now? How many people have enough money in the bank to be able to resolve an emergency? What do you do when your landlord raises your rent? So much that you can't afford to live in your home anymore? And you can't find another home because every other landlord is also raising the rent to some god awful amount?
