Homelite 5 ton electric Log splitter with single hand mod

1st posting so please excuse camera movement. Recently purchased the log splitter but didn't like bending over and having to use both hands to operate and not be able stabilize the larger diameter wood I had done before doing modification to single hand use. Noticed most videos here showed the earlier units that had the interrupt switch on top of electric box and people had made gas pedal set ups. Hadn't see any videos for the models with the switch in the horizontal (forward) position. Just wanted to show what I did with mine with the switch in the forward position. Only took a few hours to get it all together. Took longer running around getting the parts.
In video I only had small wood left as I had finished off the larger diameter (12" to 16") wood wheels earlier in the day before the rain comes. I'm left handed and working on this side of the splitter works better for me and allowed viewing of the set up while operating. Know that modifications are done at one's own risk.

I would rather figure out the wiring so the ram would return with the motor running instead. I would think the motor would last much longer with it running constantly instead of starting and stopping it all the time? One lever is enough.

Buy a cheap foot peddle ( e-bay ) mount it on a board, lock switch on,plug splitter in foot peddle then in to wall. Build a table about 30 in . I built a platform on my workmate . Cut some spacers out old 4x4 s take up space between ram and log.Take off rings,ware safety glasses , and hard shoes.Be very careful where you put your free hand if you want to keep it, If you build a table on you workmate be sure to brace it .

Great idea I have a similar splitter except that my electric switch is on the top of the electrical box I want to come up with a way to make it work like yours. I’m working on it

I love the idea, but was not able to clearly follow the part where the brake cable acuities the lever. Is ther a way to show it a bit clearer? Thanks

I made a simple c-clamp from a heavy piece of wire to hold down the motor button. I did this for two main reasons; continuously running motor stays cooler and start/stop is the death of electric components.

To make it more effective I would put a inerchangable three star or four star spliter at end

That works great for small diameter softwoods. My rounds are up to 36" of fir, maple, cherry and hemlock.

All this complicated stuff. Just take button out and add light switch with the black wire. Cut a small rectangle hole for switch. Done

this will eventually blow the seals or damage the pump, as there is no, no load bypass for the fluid, the switch is intermittent for a reason

Hello, I didn't draw up any plans, as I had the visual idea in my head. Did quesstamating on dimensions, but they did work out. What version do you have? Some earlier variants had the dead mans switch on top of the electrical box. There are some videos that show a set up with a foot pedal for those that had the switch on top. If your's if facing forward as mine is, I can take still images and put a scale next to the different pieces so you have the sizes. I did change the (1) bolt that goes through the frame of the splitter and this is the pivot for the actuating arm that has the Bicycle brake lever is mounted to It is/was a very simple set up. let me know about the pictures.
