hi, how can we know the max duration of ports ( exhaust / transfert ) ? is there any formula or trick to know because i could not find these informartion, thanks!

Have you ever put the theory to test on leaving the intake rough as opposed to polished? I’m old school porting mostly 4 stroke, few dirt bikes (2 stroke), jet skis, always polished the intake. Logic based on moving the mix as fast and smooth as possible and let the crankcase take care of mixing/keeping fuel in suspension. Had a few difficult to ride bikes because of power. Now I’m hearing several suggest leaving intakes rough. I’m planning on porting a saw and testing both ways, don’t have a Dyno so it’ll be subjective, wondering if it’s already been tested in an accurate fashion. Been porting stuff since 1968 and still have the drive to make stuff faster, just a little heads up, it’s addictive! 😂

Yes it sure is since I’ve started this project I’ve ported 3 other saws and I’m working on my 1998 Honda cr250r

Rough helps atomize the fuel polish it and if you could bead blast it to give it slight texture is perfect you don't want it smooth

@@denniswilder3014 BS!!! An 1 1/2” distance! Why not rough up the smooth intake on saws that have them. I’m experimenting myself, I don’t accept something this illogical without testing myself.

usually a kit of carbide bits

Speed without torque in a chainsaw. You won't have any speed once you put it in wood.

True but these old case reed saws already have much more torque then a modern piston ported saw in most cases. So its really just trading the extra torque for rpm

Did a similar job to a xl925 that turned very slow stock but would pull a large bar no problem. A little bit more blowdown and adding firngers of the transfers and case matching the transfers now it runs much faster and still pulls the larger bars I have. 25in & 36in
