Using the surface side of the gel works for a smoother surface. Use an index card or business card to scrape off the foam before it sets.

Hello! I'm excited to learn more about making gellie plates. I made the permanent one but I have run into a problem with it- I'm constantly getting grains of gelatin on my prints - imagine a soft, mealy apple. I'm going to redo it (microwave it) and see if maybe I didn't have high enough heat when I added the hot water. Update: microwaving it and let it set up again made a huge difference! All better now.

I did this before I purchased the Gelli plates from the gelli plate website. I mainly did it to see if it was something I wanted to invest in. I guess curiosity was a reason too. It is a really good way to see if you want to make the investment and it was fun to do too. Mine was bumpy too! That was fine because it was a neat texture. I had to run all over town to find glycerin. Even Walmart didn't have it. All in all a good experience. Highly recommended for those who want to try it. Thanks for doing this video I love watching your channel!

@diannew60665 жыл бұрын
WhoRwe2B - I know you asked a long time ago but each packet of gelatine in America contains 1/4 oz. 1/4 oz is roughly 7.08 grams. I THINK but am not positive that your measuring spoons are a little different in Europe than ours but if it helps any, each packet in the US is 2.25-2.50 teaspoons of gelatine.

The glycerine is a preservative that keeps the gelli plate mold-free indefinitely. Without it, the gelatin plate will degrade by drying out and eventually grow mold.

hi there...okay tried out the glycerin recipe and not sure what I did wrong...but mine won't set. it like Sandy geletin. I am going to try and heat it. just making sure I got this right. geletin INSTEAD of water at the beginning?
@crafttestdummies7 жыл бұрын
Not sure what Sandy gelatin is...do you mean that it's grainy? If so, then YES, you need to remelt it all and make sure the gelatine is dissolved. Please note it's GLYCERINE instead of water...and how long did you leave it to set? It does take a few hours.
@MisfitCrafter7 жыл бұрын
um about about 3 hours so maybe overnight?

Greetings from Italy! As you know we have different names for the ingredients you'r using. Cannot understand "knox unflavored gelatin" is what we use to make jelly which is "pectin" made out of apples or what we "call fish gelatin" made obviously with fish. Thanks
@crafttestdummies5 жыл бұрын
Ciao!! Knox Gelatine is animal-based (collagen) Gelatine. Not fruit OR fish-based. Used to make jelly desserts usually, liken Jell-O. Auguri!

@@crafttestdummies it might be fish-based. Usually beef, but fish gelatine is also a thing. Definitely whatever you'd use to make jellies or aspic.

For a non-US watcher, can you let me know the weight of the gelatine sachets, because my supermarket sells Dr Oetker, not Knox, and has weight in grams, and also confirm that a cup is about 240 ml (even in one conversion article, this is shown both as 225ml and 240ml - on the same page!). Thanks
@diannew60665 жыл бұрын
Hi John - I'm so sorry nobody ever got back to you with this simple answer but in case you still would like to know - each of our packets of gelatine contains 1/4 US ounce dry weight. This is equivalent to 7.08 grams per packet or 2.25-2.50 in a US measuring teaspoon. Your teaspoon measures are probably slightly different to ours (I know when I lived in Australia it was different) but probably not enough to make a difference. A US cup is 236.6 mls liquid measurement. I hope this helps. :)
