Coconut oil is the base for Appalam to have good flavour. Our ancestors make Appalam/Vadam at home till today Amma too bcoz Acharyam/Arthodox. Instant Apalam very nice

It depends on which state you come from. In Kerala it is coconut oil. Some states it is mix of castor oil, perandai juice and sesame oil.

I learned this recipe from a brahmin patti my neighbour ... once she call me to help her that's how I learned this recipe .... every time it came out well I'm preparing this method only for the past 15 yrs

I followed your recipe. Very precise and good recipe. I got 63 small square & round pappadams. When you add baking soda you get pappadams. I think for Appalam you should not add soda. But excellent recipe. No wastage at all.

Instead of rolling in hand can we use mixie to mix the flour

It's a tight dough u can't.... U have to knead for about 15 - 20 mins to make it soft
