Coconut oil is the base for Appalam to have good flavour. Our ancestors make Appalam/Vadam at home till today Amma too bcoz Acharyam/Arthodox. Instant Apalam very nice

It depends on which state you come from. In Kerala it is coconut oil. Some states it is mix of castor oil, perandai juice and sesame oil.

I followed your recipe. Very precise and good recipe. I got 63 small square & round pappadams. When you add baking soda you get pappadams. I think for Appalam you should not add soda. But excellent recipe. No wastage at all.
