I have so much timber and scrap wood laying around, this was just what I was looking for! I’m glad I’m not crazy for considering repurposing them for birdhouses haha

Congratulations! This is the 4th DIY bird house video I've watched and the only one to show the finished bird house at the beginning of the video. You are the only one that knows bird houses AND videos. The other videos forced me to fast forward till I could see what the finished project look like. You did it right.

These are great instructions. Though I've heard it's best not to have a peg in front because "enemy" birds will use it to more easily come in and loot the nest or attack it in some way

Kind of, the perch is more attractive for invasive House Sparrows, which will kill native bluebirds and swallows. All the native birds are well adapted to accessing holes without a perch

I have dozens of these scattered throughout my property. They look great. If I could give you a tip, cut a disk off one end first for the bottom, just looks more natural and saves you cutting one to fit from another material.

This is just superb, I've been looking for "birdhouse instructions simple" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Daniliana Birdfly Babar - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got amazing results with it.

That's a good idea but you'll get better drainage if you recess the bottom, so I would actually use a slice of the core and screw or nail it about a 1/4" up inside the birdhouse.

DO NOT put a peg in front! Your target nester species don’t need it, but it absolutely provides predator birds a place to stand while they reach in and pull chicks out !

They look great, I would put a drainage hole or two in the base to allow water to escape just in case the rain water came through the entrance hole, also use stainless steel screws (that will not rust solid and stick) so that the sides can be opened to remove old nest material, the dead runt of the clutch (there is always a victim in the family), and sterilise the inside with boiling water. Allow to dry out and reassemble.

Loving so many options, but agree with others... slice a piece off the bottom before splitting or carving up the body for the base. This piece could easily be screwed on for access to clean it out periodically.

Just curious what species of wood a person should look for. I live on the Canadian Prairies in east-central Alberta. Not many large trees to be had and not much variety of different species. Lots of box elders (or "Manitoba Maple" as we sometimes call them). Any poplars that fall down are usually too rotten and cracked to make use of.

Our neighbor on the 2nd floor just moved in and uses an owl decoy which has affected birds (and humming birds) to come visit our beautiful patio, bird feeders and bird bath. Before she moved in our birds visited often and had so much fun. Can you give me advice on how we can get the birds to return to our bird haven. Love your youtube video

The opening seems very high for the young birds. I piece of mesh or cloth inside leading up to it would help a lot. Also, the size of the hole is determined by what type of birds you want to attract.
