Thats a well made and robust wood lathe.. Reminds me on my own lathe build, some time ago. (videos on my channel).. And the washing machine motor still holds up fine after hundreds of hours working with the machine... Even turning bowls and bigger dameters is no problem with it. I definitly should do more woodturning.. My girlfriend is more into woodturning. She uses the machine the most... Anyway..i digress... I am sure, you will have a lot of fun and make a lot of creative things with this new addition to your shop. Greets from Austria.

I have been wanting to do the same. It's tough to find decent scrap steel anymore without someone wanting An arm and a leg for it.

Obviously not the first lathe you have made. Your design and process has avoided the usual mistakes. The emergency stop placement position would be my only query! Great job otherwise, well executed and presented.

Line boring the tail stock was really smart. Using the screw from a jack was even smarter.

Very nice well-made lathe. I watched the first half hour to find out you were only making a wood lathe! Had I known, I have 3 Shopsmith's already! Just my opinion, but you have waaay overbiilt!!

you cant buy steel in Australia that is flat and square like i saw in this video we get reject stuff ...our clever little salesmen imported reject steel to undercut the local manufactures and put them all out of business ... we have got used to using crap steel now
