When I was in elementary school, back in the late 1970s, our lunch ladies actually still cooked. They made a vegetable beef soup that I loved even though vegetable beef wasn't always high on my list, in general. We would get peanut butter sandwiches with that along with a 'stick' of Cheddar cheese that was obviously cut off of a larger block. Not Velveeta type processed cheese food, though, but real, Cheddar cheese. Man, I am 52 and still remember how good a lunch that was! The stuff they called 'Chicken Chow Mein' - which was actually chicken casserole with crunchy chow mein noodles on top instead of stuffing, was also delicious. Strange to think I am.probably older, now, than a lot of those ladies were, then.

Also a Pringle's fan, and the small can means you can't get your hand stuck too far inside... And one of my favorite writers, sci-fi author Gene Wolfe, designed the machine that makes them when he was an engineer for Proctor-Gamble. I lived off Pringles when I was helping with disaster relief in New York and there were huge cases of them for our use in our command post.

Brother, Thanks for the vid. We use Wolf Brand Chili, with cut up wieners, fresh onion, and fresh jalapeno cut up in it, perfect camp meal. Best served with tortillas used as a spoon. Washed down with boiled camp coffee. We have used your concept of MREs, and do enjoy them. Recently found Bumblebee Snacks at Dollar Tree, I was completely surprised at how good they tasted. That being said, we have now ordered from Amazon a complete selection of their products, both boxed, and pouches. Not bad. We were product snobs until we found your channel, Thank you for instructing your followers, me included, to step out of our comfort zones try new things, have fun, and most of all find a new way of looking at life. Hi,DBA. Checking in from Tokyo,Japan, as you know we have many natural disasters here, frequent earthquakes,volcanic eruptions,typhoons(hurricanes),landslides,etc. and all the things that go along with that. We are a country that takes disaster precautions seriously. We have all kind of prepared foods ,canned,and soo many packages of civilian type Mre,among other quick prepare type foods/packaging. I’ve been recommending your channel too my family,friends,coworkers, soo they can get even more ideas about their emergency preparedness. Your videos have changed how I prepare my other families hurricane boxes. We come from a long line of campers and know how to cook over open fire. I used to put together ingredients to prepare meals over a cook stove. I recently found out my adult children and grandchildren are not that interested in cooking. I will be making meal bags for each and have purchased small rocket stoves and small cooking containers if they decide to warm up the food. Thank you so much

We recently found a shop the size of a 7-11 near our Philippine home base. The difference is, they sell a great line of products at deep discounts. We found German beer in cans actually cheaper than beer produced at local Philippine brewers. Yes, it was good, I taste tested it. We recently learned that S&R Membership will soon open their newest store a short distance down the road from our Philippine subdivision. The new location is off Rt 2, that is the General Douglas MacArthur national highway and will be easy to find and access. I opened the S&R online shopping site and was pleased to learn they will be offering many US based items we have had great difficulty finding if we can locate them at all since the Covid 19 lockdowns. Ravioli cold from the can may not be your top choice but nobody will die from it! Our troops 72 hour school emergency kit completion and the practices sessions with their kits will be accomplished over two weeks in June. Hello again, my friend. Immediately after this video ended, I tried to find the closest Buc-ees to me, here in Michigan, but like so many special things in this country, it is mainly in the south, and the nearest one to me is 8 hours away. As I have told you before, I bet you would be a great person to know in real life. I have been wanting to give you a big thank you for your service to this country. It is most appreciated. Okay DBA!!! This was a great Buc-ee’s recovery! I was one who felt that the Mr. Fish original fell short and came off as more of a gag, regardless of all this content being simply for entertainment anyway! I do have great additional news about this particular episode!!!…..My wife and I spend our mornings having coffee in bed, competitively playing Wordle, etc… then at some point we surf our phones, share funny memes and social media content. Well this morning, I saw this new DBA episode and began to watch…..I respectfully turned the volume down, so my wife can surf her phone without me drowning her out as I watched. My wife would not be one to search out this type of content specifically. About the halfway point, my wife asked if I could turn the volume up as she simultaneously leaned over to also watch. I said, I wasn’t sure if she would really dig this homemade MRE/C-Rations content……she responded by saying I really enjoy this man’s voice, his ability to gain her attention and be so entertaining!!! I proceeded to turn up the volume and we continued to watch the remainder of this episode along with taking her down memory lane of the Whole Foods episode to its entirety! You had me at Day 1 and NOW, my wife is a fan!!!! This made my day….Thanks buddy! 🤟🏼❤️

Hi DBA. As I am in the UK I don't really know many of your shops/stores, however I have heard of Sharp Shopper, a discount store, but can't remember where it is located, I think it might be Pennsylvania. We are getting a Buc-ee's in Virginia and its less than 2 hours away. Looking forward to checking it out. So you did Aldi, have you hit a Lidl yet? If you haven't been to Lidl, its basically a better version of Aldi. The one I hit yesterday had cans of Greek foods (actually made in Bulgaria, but that can be our secret) that would be great for an MRE. 9.8oz, pull tops. They were vegetarian as well so that could work for making a specialized MRE. The can I grabbed to try out was Green Beans in tomato sauce.

Watching you try the fruit cup and add the nuts and suggest making them a combo mix. Maybe explore mixing different flavors, ie: Tuna and pickles. add potato chips.

I saw a guy with a Buckeyes T-shirt here in Maine. I yelled “Buckeyes” and he yelled “love them!”

Can't wait to try a pb sandwich with my chili. I usually just make corn bread muffins. Keep up the great videos.

I have never thought about PB and Chili. I make PB and J sammiches for split pea and ham soup. Also bean and bacon soup. Buc-ee’s jersey is good too. Last stop I made they had amazing jalapeno peanut brittle
@dadbudgetadventures6 ай бұрын
I got some of that brittle in this trip and found myself wanting more.

My Mom made grilled cheese on chili night. I do the same as an adult. Either that or cornbread w/ chili.

What? Everyone knows that grilled cheese is for tomato soup! 😂

Very good work editing these videos. The content is really nice and fun to see your creativity on this type of topic. Something from normal grocery stores any local where you live. Would be good for a meal ready to eat. Instead of buying ready made things; use your dehydrator and or freeze dry food items for a camping trip or just in a pinch to eat and enjoy. The idea I am suggesting is to make each item not buying them. Which this would give a lot of flexibility in the things to put in an MRE it could for a single meal, 24 meal set and or a group or family type. I think this would really be fun to do. If you do it I hope it is fun and is a little easier than buying specific items because you can make the items and create good options and also you can create any types vegetarian or carnivore types or an in between combination of the two. But something that you could have as important is a healthy meal without excess sodium or excess sugar or alternatives to those. Natural sweeteners and seasonings in place of salt when seasoning the items you make. So a health oriented type of pre-prepared shelf stable freeze dried or vacuum sealed or any other type of idea to make the items shelf stable. Good luck I think it maybe a slight difficult but you have a lot of ability to be very creative. This idea wouldn’t discourage bought items you already have in your pantry too. Thank You, Steve

This channel is constantly learning and evolving. As I learn new approaches I test the waters to see what people want to watch and I introduce new ideas. So as long as people want to see it I’ll try just about anything.

Did you make sure the coffee drink didn't have any dairy in it that would require refrigeration?
@dadbudgetadventures5 ай бұрын
It doesn’t have to be refrigerated until it’s open as far as I can tell.

Going along the lines of the Buckys thing, I have noticed that one of the other gas station chains has started having a lot of their own branded stuff and stocking pretty much everything. That is Casey’s. Maybe give them a shot?
@dadbudgetadventures6 ай бұрын
I love Casey’s! It’s another one I have to hit when traveling though so we will see if I can pull it off on a future road trip.
