Cranberries just went ON SALE here. I'm really surprised they are already marking the price down. Regular price is $2+ per bag and they are on sale for $1.50 a bag. I got 10 bags! Can't wait to try this. I think I will like this method better than other methods because I will not have to strain the berries out later PLUS with the juice being more concentrated, the jars will not take up as much space in my cabinets. I'm running out of room so whatever space I can is a definite plus. Thanks Toni for posting this!

Hi Toni! Just re-watching this again after making cran-orange sauce. I've got 5 bags I just bought on sale & have at least 6-8 more bags in the freezer. So I'm going to try this method. A little more work this way, but I liked what you ended up with much better than other methods. Especially the no sugar! My question is about the foam at the top of the jars. Did you leave it there or scoop it out? Wondering about how it might affect the seals. Thanks- great video!
@HerHomesteadSkills15 күн бұрын
If the foam is substantial, scooping some of it out is fine, otherwise you just need a clean rim and seals and they should seal just fine.

I made some with some cranberry sauce, not the jelly kind, but the real sauce, some water, and a napkin to filter it. I sweetened it with a little bit of maple syrup. First I took the sauce out of the dish it was in, and put it in a water bottle, half full of water, and then I closed the lid and shook it. After that, I grabbed a napkin, a rubber band, and a cup. I slowly poured the liquid into the cup, and let the napkin filter it changing the napkin a few times as well. Then I got a little hot water, and mixed in a 7 second long squeeze of syrup and mixed it until they were combined. Then I stirred it into the juice, and enjoyed it. What do you guys think? Give it a try.

@HerHomesteadSkills8 ай бұрын
I never tried but I bet you can...Cranberries are loaded with natural pectin and the first thing I would try is just to boil and reduce one of these quart jars until it jells and that would likely work...I suspect that you would want to add sugar though. If that doesn't work or you want a larger quantity then you can purchase a box of pectin and follow the instructions.

@@HerHomesteadSkills I got them really cheap last year, at Costco, too. Last year, I just happened on them but this year I specifically looked for them. Both times, right after Thanksgiving! I’m going to look again after the American Thanksgiving and again after Christmas. I live near a business Center but have to travel a bit to get to a regular outlet. My juice is made. I can't believe you did all that work for such a small difference. I bet you never do it this way again. Such a mess to clean up too. I also love eating the berries that are in my 'easily canned' juice as well and would miss that. I add a bit of lemon juice and or orange juice with a dash of salt to bring out the flavor. I water bath for 25 minutes by choice because I am starting with raw berries. I think it brings out more of the flavor and gets a really deep color. Even after just a few days I am enjoying the juice and berries. I add a 1/4 cup of sugar to a quart. Each 12 ounce bag of berries you buy at the store will make 2 quarts. In an afternoon I put up 28 quarts.
