I grew up with canned cream of mushroom soup. I never tasted an original; so, when a friend suggested I make my own Cream of Mushroom Soup, I thought it was an excellent idea. This soup has plenty of mushrooms and a mild, delicate flavor. Unlike a stew, which is a meal unto itself, this would make a great starter for a holiday feast. It doesn't take long to make and it requires only one pot. It can easily be made a day in advance and heated when needed.
