Thank you for this recipe. I transferred this recipe to be poured into an empty Seventh generation brand fabric softener bottle. That is expensive fabric softener for sensitive skin. Anyway, in this homemade recipe, I used patchouli essential oil. I love the homemade fabric softener so far and it leaves the clothes so soft and fresh!

The problem with this is that vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out. Baking soda has a pH of 8.4 (alkaline). Vinegar has a pH of 2.4 to 3.4 (acid), depending on the concentration of the acetic acid, which normally varies from 5-10% for most vinegar that you will purchase in the store. When you mix the two, you create a chemical reaction that creates Sodium Acetate (NaC2H3O2), which is a salt, and H2CO3, which is CO2 and water (Carbonic Acid, similar to a carbonate beverage). The H2CO3 effect will be quickly lost in the water and you will be left with mostly salt - Sodium Acetate. Better to use only vinegar and essential oil. Baking soda can be added to the wash cycle if you have hard water. The vinegar in the rinse cycle will help to remove any soap residue (if you are using commercial soap).
@thefrugalhomestead78732 жыл бұрын
It doesn't mix completely and it's not as black and white as you're putting it. But sodium acetate has been used in the past for cleaning and softening principles in wool. Which is why it works. That said we have another video on a different kind that addresses your exact remarks about this one
@Nondas8552 Жыл бұрын
the salt will be diluted by water and form vinegar and a strong base (CH3COONa +H2O = CHECOOH + NaOH) so if its diluted its better than scented vinegar.

But can you tell me the use of the baking soda. I just want to understand the properties and how they function. Ty.

@@thefrugalhomestead7873 The second half of this comment got really defensive for no reason. They asked a legitimate question, they weren’t criticizing you. They are here because they want to use alternates to store bought fabric softeners. And you don’t address the vinegar and baking soda not neutralizing each other in the video.
@thefrugalhomestead78732 жыл бұрын
@@TacosYBurritos8P you may have taken it that way but after answering thousands of comments just like this and worse you will develop a shorter nature and hand them back other alternatives if they don't like the ones that you are presenting You're already making the effort to give them options and alternatives when they come in the comments and start criticizing it or question it without taking the time to write out a complete comment on why they're thinking or what they're asking or anything else then yes you can get slightly defensive but we put forth the time in the effort to make the video if you can't be bothered to put in more than two settings comments then you have to expect you're going to get whatever response you get. And you chimed in on it doesn't make the situation any better I would encourage you to go make your own video like this and watch the responses you get.

Technically no, as white vinegar is also an anti bacterial agent. It's not only great at disinfecting 'soiled' items, but it also helps keep your machine clean, as it dissolves lime scale.

If you value your health, don't use Cologne/perfume. It's usually full of toxic chemicals.☠️⚠️ ...and it's toxic for anyone breathing it😬 Companies don't need to disclose what they put in artificial fragrances because it's covered under a "proprietary formula". There's over 300 chemicals that could be in that, including things like formaldehyde and benzene, and a long list of other toxic chemicals and petroleum derivatives. What's the solution?? 100% pure Essential Oils made from plants. Better for your health and better for the planet.
